The Machiavellian madness of the Democratic Party

There once was a time when the Democratic Party stood for something. Let us not forget men such as Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who defied popular opinion and, illegally, supplied Britain with armaments during the early days of the Second World War. Nor should we forget the thousands of Democrats who defied their nation’s policy of isolationism and joined the Canadian armed Forces to fight against the Nazi menace, before the United States woke up in the aftermath of Pearl Harbor. and let us never forget Harry S. Truman, who defeated Japan and desegregated our armed forces.

These men were all ideologically liberal, but proved that there was no conflict with embracing a liberal ideology and being a patriotic american.

For democracy to flourish there is a need for a duality of opinion. The beauty of our democratic system has always been balance. The leadership of today’s Democratic Party, however, has become so obsessed with their blind hatred of President Bush, and addiction to lost power, that they have embraced our nation’s enemies and turned their backs on the american solider. at the same time, they defend the imagined rights of those who wish to destroy our nation’s security.

The Machiavellian madness that has overcome Democrats like Howard Dean, John Kerry, Barbara Boxer, and Nancy Pelosi is not grounded in a natural-born hatred of the United States but in a well conceived plan to end Republican control of government. In short, they are putting politics ahead of our nation’s security. The recent string of incendiary statements by Democratic political leaders are a calculated strategy to benefit other Democrats who will be able to, falsely, present themselves as moderates to the critical "undecided" voters who, in today’s political climate, are essential to victory.

In support of this argument, I present the words of the leaders of the Democratic Party: John Kerry has gone so far as to refer to our soldiers as "terrorists". In a recent television interview, Kerry stated that american soldiers are "going into the homes of Iraqis in the dead of night, terrorizing kids and children". Kerry’s comments serve the same purpose as those of Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean, who recently stated that the "idea that we're going to win the war in Iraq is an idea which is just plain wrong". I believe that both men hold these anti-american views; however, I question the rationale behind any seasoned politician publicly making such statements.

It is my belief that their reasoning is to allow other Democrats to seem conservative by comparison. a prime example is Georgia’s Democrat Congressman Jim Marshall, whose liberal voting record I recently exposed in a column that I wrote for a newspaper in Georgia. Despite having received a $5,000 campaign contribution from Hilary Clinton — arguably, one of the most hated woman in Georgia - voting against repealing the death tax, which negatively affects every small farmer in his district, and voting against tort reform to the benefit of his fellow lawyers who poured thousands of dollars into his campaign coffers; Marshall is now successfully attempting to recast himself as a war-time conservative. Facing a tough reelection challenge in 2006, from former Republican Congressman Mac Collins, Marshall is benefiting himself by opposing Nancy Pelosi’s recent legislation calling for "a thorough investigation of abuses related to the Iraq war". He publicized his action by penning a commentary piece on his opposition to Pelosi’s legislation in the atlanta Journal Consttution and other regional newspapers. This from a man who tends to vote along with Pelosi over 70% of the time, and recently wrote: "The Iraq war has predictably evolved into a guerrilla conflict similar to Vietnam." By being able to contrast himself against the "left" wing of the Democratic Party, Marshall will certainly benefit. However, the primary profiteer of this effort will be Marshall’s benefactor, Senator Hilary Clinton.

Thanks to the anti-war efforts of the Democrat Party’s so-called "leadership", its true leader, Senator Clinton, has been able to wrap herself in the flag and transform her public image into that of a moderate conservative. Clinton will also benefit from a promise made by Code Pink, a group made famous for their support of Cindy Sheehan and their protests outside Walter Reed Medical Center, to launch a campaign against Senator Clinton. Like it or not, Clinton has succeeded in recasting herself in the eyes of that most important sector of the american electorate, those who do not vote along party lines.

The once great Democratic Party has sold its soul in this cynical bid to win back the White House and Congress. The only question now is whether the american people will be able to remove their blinders and reject this seditious farce. FDR and Truman would not have sold out their nation for political gain, but today we are bereft of Democratic leaders like them. The Democratic Party of today is willing to sell every principle held dear by our nation in their blatant attempt at reestablishing lost power. The only word that can accurately describe their actions is "shame".
