Embryonic stem cell research: it all comes down to murder

J. Grant Swank, Jr.
Wednesday, August 3, 2005

It’s akin to abortion. Murder cannot be tolerated in a civilized community. America considers itself to be grounded upon civility; therefore, murder cannot be allowed in America.

Murder is daily fare in some nations. Saddam Hussein committed murder in all sorts of horrific shapes every day and night of his hellish reign. Such goes on in other countries as well.

However, in nations that claim to be freedom-based, that is, honoring humans as humans-permitted-to-be-kept-alive, murder is not countenanced.

Embryonic stem cell research leads to slaughtering humans. Each of us was once just that – an embryo. We are now grown. But we started out as embryos. That means, that from the start we were humans, real live humans.

Therefore, to tinker with that embryo for whatever purpose is to do damage to a real live human being. It cannot be allowed. Consequently, U.S. President George W. Bush takes the humane, civilized position that any freedom-based nation should applaud.

Instead of Mr. Bush being badgered for his stance, he should be thanked over and over. His defense of that embryo is the defense of every citizen within the American borders. For him to sacrifice that position would be to open up possibilities for the allowance of all kinds of murder, for murder it would be.

Again: embryonic stem cell research is the same as murder.

Some call it "science." But there are various kinds of "science." Hitler named gassing Jews and Gentiles as his "science." And so the definition can be twisted. The term "science" is not sacrosanct, though individuals such as Bill Frist appear to think it so. As a doctor, he should know better. As a professed Christian, he should know better.

Science is neutral. It thereby can be logged in for good or it can be logged in for bad. Science working in the embryonic stem cell research laboratories is a killing science. So-called elitists who haughtily champion abortion try to sound high-brow with their so-called academic claims on behalf of embryonic stem cell research. However, these are the same persons who endorse killing womb babies.

As Senator Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania stated on ABC’s This Week: "You're destroying this life for the purpose of research which has questionable value."

Yes, and "destroying this life" is the same as murder.
