Would Casey approve of Mom Sheehan's shenanigans?

J. Grant Swank, Jr.

Casey Sheehan signed up for the armed forces. No one forced him to sign up. apparently he signed up like all others sign up. He wanted to defend freedoms. He wanted to be a part of the action. He was old enough to know that it could mean his life. Nevertheless, he still signed up – voluntarily.

Evidently there was some patriotism motive at work when Casey signed on the dotted line. Seemingly he knew what it meant to put on a uniform representing the United States military. Obviously as he completed basic training, he knew all the more what would be required of him as a military man. Therefore, he went off to combat.

In time, Casey was felled. He paid the supreme sacrifice. Jesus said, "There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for a friend." It just could have been that Casey, whether Christian or not, held to some humanitarian quest in committing one’s earthly life to a cause for others which could mean his life. In that, he died in battle.

Therefore, I seriously wonder what Casey would think concerning his mother, Cindy Sheehan, going through such antics as are displayed for the world to witness. She’s made a ditch her home. She’s glued to her persona every leftist that could muster the fuel to get to Crawford. She’s of course vacuumed in the liberal media.

Her followers are quoting her sentences as daily mantras from the esteemed goddess. Naturally, there are those who claw at such appraisals as being hard-hearted and crass, having no feeling for a sorrowing mother. To that I want to say this: Give me a break.

Sheehan is out there doing what she’s doing because she’s been in politically liberal this and that for some time now. To preen her status all the more she’s chosen a dramatic mode for getting attention.

If she were truly sorrowful for her son’s death she would not be putting on such a politically correct showtime. She knows exactly what she’s doing and it’s not expressing a genuine parent’s grief. It’s staging a platform for the liberal Democratic Party and all other anti-Bush enthusiasts.

Therefore, one truly wonders where the actual sympathy is from a mother who would discount a son’s enlistment in the United States armed forces, complete basic training without reneging, and then march off to war to do in the enemy.

If that mother were sincerely grieving over her committed son’s enlistment, she would be proudly stating his dedication to the cause of liberty instead of perverting his commitment into a politically liberal sideshow.

It’s amazing what a parent will do to use her own child’s death by which to further her own egocentricity. and it’s quite sad at that.
