832 Attorneys defend Christmas

They’re ready to fight for the manger in America.

The US Constitution allows free religious expression. And that goes for Christians as well as anyone else. Therefore, Christmas is the holy season to go to battle for Baby Jesus.

There are 832 lawyers ready to "charge any municipality or public school that tries to excise the mention or observance of the world’s most widely celebrated holiday," according to The Washington Times’ Julia Duin. So there.

There is a poster at the lawyers’ building front door. It reads: "Have you ever experienced discrimination because you are a Christian?" That should be invitation enough. Walk through the door to discover the Alliance Defense Fund.

The phones are hopping off their hooks there in Scottsdale, Arizona. Secretaries are busy taking notes. Lawyers are ready to attack the anti-God enemy. It was but the outset of Christmas month that the office crew numbered 160 calls from around the USA. Citizens were asking for help to combat secularists intent on taking over the country for anything but the Judeo-Christian American heritage.

That won’t happen, says the ADF. Not on a Bethlehem star.

There were the calls from Christians who are incensed at the Wisconsin elementary school changing the lyrics of "Silent Night." There boys and girls were to entertain family and friends with "Cold in the night, no one in sight." Not going to happen, say the believers. Then of course there are the city halls wiping out the crèche scenes.

Joining the ADF is the Liberty Counsel of Orlando, Foirda. There staff advertises the "Friend or Foe Christmas Campaign." Seven hundred attorneys wait to help the holy family remain firmly ensconced in December.

Surprise. There is also the Jews against Anti-Christian Defamation–American Jews defending Christians in their witness to "Merry Christmas" and the Christ Child.

"’Christmas is disappearing,’ Don Feder, the group's president, says. ‘It's disappearing from our culture at an alarming rate, disappearing from stores, disappearing from schools and disappearing from the public square.’"

"What's helped the ADF grow from $400,000 in gross revenues in 1993 to $17 million today is its annual ‘Christmas project,’ which enlists lawyers around the country to take up cases where Christmas is under attack."

According to the Pacific Justice Institute Kevin Snider, Chief Counsel of PCI, "There is absolutely nothing illegal about Christmas.

"Even in the most restrictive context–government-sponsored displays–the U.S. Supreme Court has held that nativity scenes and other religious symbols are entitled to equal footing with pop icons like Frosty the Snowman.

"By contrast, there are zero restrictions on private citizens and companies–including retailers and employers–who wish to acknowledge the true meaning of Christmas."

The ACLU has got us snookered. The secularists have us convinced. The atheists have us tied up in knots. The public school powers-that-be have us confused. Even some clergy are off base when it comes to what is law and what is not regarding Christian witness. And this applies to such a testimony at Christmastide.

It is just as the PJI has informed us. There are no legal restrictions when it comes to sharing the gospel of Christmas. Again: "There is absolutely nothing illegal about Christmas."

Now this year, the ADF has communicated with 10,000 school district and scores of cities throughout America to educate them on the freedom of speech, the right to religious expression, warning all not to try to stifle such, particularly regarding Christmas observances.

In addition, Judge Samuel Alito says YES to Christmas witness, according to Religion News Service’s Kevin Eckstrom.

Moralists are backing Judge Samuel Alito for the US Supreme Court. They have come upon support from "new advertisements that present Alito as a defender of religious Christmas displays."

Secularists are downplaying this. As can be expected, Americans United for Separation of Church and State Director Reverend Barry Lynn stated to the New York Times: "’If they think that hitching Samuel Alito to Santa's sleigh is going to eliminate serious issues about his regard for the Constitution, I think they are mistaken.’"

Nevertheless, those who back Alito point to his ruling when a federal appeals judge. He permitted a crèche and menorah display to reside side by side at Jersey City, New Jersey’s City Hall. He concluded it just made democracy sense. So do logical persons throughout the country.

"’Judge Alito ruled against the ACLU's attempt to scrub away our religious heritage,’ says the Fidelis Internet ad, unveiled on Monday (Dec. 5), against background music featuring ‘The First Noel.’ ‘Judge Alito used common sense and applied the law, the kind of common sense that every American needs on the Supreme Court.’"

Further: "The Committee for Justice radio ad (supporting Alito), airing in Colorado, West Virginia and Wisconsin, says, ‘Freedom of religious expression is everyone's right -- and not just during this special season, but all year long.’"
