Scooter Libby, Pat Fitzgerald, bamboozlement

Richard armitage: From Camp Powell to High Camp

By John Burtis

Wednesday, august 30, 2006

Well, as a humble man from a small town in the forgotten hustings, except for those halcyon days when the increasingly radical Democratic politicos appear every four years for the primary season and promise us all 3-D-visions of a socialist Eden and the glasses to see it, I'm very pleased that the cork has finally been pulled from that rare Joe Wilson, Valerie Plame, Scooter Libby, Karl Rove, Richard armitage vintage.

For some period of time this heady wine - said to be a mix of the grapes of Republican wrath, Democratic revenge, Wilsonian perfidy, Vanity fair, the trite calumnies of Bush, the unwarranted exposure of Valerie, with entirely too many feet, hands, and camera ready snoots in the grape press has been fermenting for three years without a final taste of its product.

Now, thanks again to Mr. Robert Novak, a myriad of chatty pundits, a new book by that wily old and once premier "Bush lied cheerleader," Mr. David Corn, and New York's own John Podhoretz, we now possess a relatively good idea that it was Mr. Richard armitage, Colin Powell's former key grip, gaffer, sidekick, factotum, and shield carrier, who let fly with the information that Valerie Plame was a secret agent and not a Ford model or a can-can dancer, a long time ago.

and thanks to everybody and their brothers, we can at long last taste this limited, somewhat sour and rather tart dessert wine.

We also learn, sadly, that the US Justice Department - who organized the grand guignol of the Inquisition of the farcical hoax of the three-year investigation which ensnared Scooter in its sieve net for fibbing about something to a grand jury empanelled for no reason at all in hindsight - knew all along that Mr. armitage was the tipster and chose to proceed with the costly Punch'n Judy Show anyway, regardless of the personal costs, harm, incurred detriments to reputations, and damage to the sitting government.

It should also be understood that this joke of a ridiculous bit of frightfully gaudy high courtroom camp was okayed and allowed to go on by a Justice Department allegedly under the nominal control and appointment of President Bush.

after all of this wine has been poorly digested at best by our weakened systems, it was Richard armitage who told all and not Karl Rove.

and serried pundits explain that Mr. armitage skated above the shrinking glaciers of warming global honesty because he was a "good" leaker and a weak liar, especially when he called Mr. Fitzgerald and bawled about his part in this shabby affair and begged forgiveness and was given a pass by the high, and oh, so mighty, and the man given so much in the way of raw judicial power, Mr. Patrick Fitzgerald, the magnificent.

and Mr. Fitzgerald, fresh from his midnight meanderings in the garden of Moe and Curley, chose to continue with this utter burlesque of a pantomime of a prosecution over absolutely nothing, even going so far as to claim that Ms. Plame possessed a certain "classified" position somewhere at the CIa in his far reaching and cartoonish "press conference" where he proffered the indictment of Scooter Libby for fibbing to a G-man in his statements over his reminiscences as demonstrating the sheer gravitas of the case before him. a case, we now know, which was nothing more than a base fraud perpetrated on us all from its very inception.

With the final exposure of Mr. armitage and his balding pate as the final suspects in this fading denouement, only Mr. Libby is left in the dock before the gagged up magistrates, where he must try to remember what it was he actually lied about during his questioning about a crime that was not only not committed, but of whom the suspect was already known to the investigating agencies at the time Scooter was grilled about the affair in which he was actually not involved in.

This all represents a true masterpiece of a federal investigation rivaled only by the internecine twists and turns found in the Moscow show trials of the Prom Party or the Bukharinites, where the suspects often turned to the prosecutors to ask if they were following the proper script, where planted shills cried out for the death penalty - much as our highly trained Democrats do today - and where the victims often entered court still bearing the evidence of their recent beatings, while wearing overlarge pants without belts and suspenders, necessitating their holding their trousers up with their hands throughout the garish proceedings.

In view of the outing of Mr. armitage, it is now hoped that Mr. Libby will be allowed the use of approved braces and cinctures during the course of his future court appearances to save him similar embarrassment.

I suspect that this investigation, carried out for three years even though the suspect was known at the beginning of the proceedings, with tab of untold millions of dollars, which injured the reputations and lives of so many, will be a model for future Democratic special prosecutors, should they gain the House in November.

George Bush never lied. Scooter Libby is in the dock for the flimsiest of nigh on unproveable frauds. Karl Rove took a walk after thousands in legal fees. David Corn, after years of accusing the President for being a liar, now writes a book claiming he wasn't. and George Soros will continue his outright purchase of the Democratic Party at rock bottom prices to insure that future Fitzgerald-like hijinx will occur with a regularity he'll demand from his newly purchased political puppets.

Yes, Richard armitage was the man with the golden tongue, unlike Frank Sinatra, who was the man with the golden arm, who set it all in motion and whose early mea culpa couldn't stop it because the Fitzgerald genie was unable to return to its broken bottle, and not Karl Rove.

as El Rushbo, Mr. Limbaugh, the man with the golden truth detector, so clearly pointed out on his Tuesday show, the months of drive by media Bush bashing contributed to the President's decline in the polls, with Mr. armitage's total silence in the non-existent Plame game as their primary weapon. Is Uncle Dick responsible?

and where is Mr. armitage today?

He's hiding as a "trusted" camp follower in Mr. John McCain's traveling political salvation show.

Do I hear "high" camp, anyone?
