A 300 lb canister of compressed chlorine gas was stolen from the Regional Water Corporation of Montgomery County, Texas ( 16705 Gleneagle Drive North ) on Tuesday, 3 July 2007. This plant is located northeast of the I-45 and State Highway 242 (Needham Rd.) junction which is approximately 25 miles north of central downtown Houston, TX.

Excerpt from the linked media report:

Officials said thieves cut a whole in the fence behind the water treatment buildings and got into the plant. The canister was stolen from the second floor. Other damage was reported as well, including valves turned on and an electrical box broken into.

The stainless steel canister's contents are clearly marked in black letters on the side.

Investigators said kids or teenagers might have stolen the gas, not knowing what they actually took.

Deputies are concerned about the theft because if the gas is released, it can cause immediate death.

The suspect 'kids' went to a lot of trouble to steal a 300 lb canister of chlorine, not to mention the other damage or attempted sabotage to the facility.
