Drum Circles, treehouse

A Hippie Is Alive And Well In Miami

By Jim Whelan,

Tuesday, August 28, 2007

I haven't seen a high pie in quite some time. That'swhat a friend used to call hippies back a couple ofdecades ago, and I still use description today.

In this mornings paper, and I can't recall which onea the moment because I read several, there was astory about a woman and her daughter living in athree story treehouse in the middle of Miami. It hasto be a big tree because she is renting out tworooms to make some cash.

(At The Joan Randall Agency there are no HighPies, and we're a a shade more conventional. Wedo however have an outdoor shower. It's locatedabout 300 yards from the office, right near thebeach, but because we're so busy working, itdoesn't get much use. Call us at 206 407 3124.Chances are pretty good you'll find us here.)

She also hosts some bizarre hippie rituals likedrum circles when the moon is full.

Her brother and some friends built the treehousebefore Hurricane Andrew devastated the area in1992, and she has been living there ever since.

There's an outdoor shower, and electric kitchenappliances, along with wireless internet for herdaughter to do her homework on the computer.

There is fresh fruit on the trees, and there arevegetables in the garden. The woman owns alandscaping business.

It sounds like she is doing pretty well for herselfand living in a treehouse suits her just fine.

She doesn't have any trouble renting the rooms, and both are occupied at the moment. Somefolks can't handle it though, because the roostercrows at the crack of dawn, and there isn't anyair conditioning.

That would rule me out for sure, along with theskeeters.

But overall I have to hand it to this High Pie, evenwith her two tone hair and bohemian floral skirt. She ain't looking for a handout, and is making itwork.

It's not my cup of tea, but if you like the SwissFamily Robinson thing, she has it down.

From the big saddle,
Jim Whelan

P.S. You know, when it cools off a bit in the latefall I just might take a trip to see this place. I builta tree house when I was a kid, but unfortunately therewas only room for me, so it wasn't much fun.
