The Phil And Tiger Show
By Jim Whelan
Thursday, September 6, 2007
If you dig golf...it don't get no mo better than this. It's Monday afternoon, and the long weekend is winding down, and Tiger and Phil are neck and neck going down the stretch of the Duetches Bank Tournament. Right now, as I write this, they are on 15, with three holes to go. Phil is up two...make that one...shot with three holes to go.
Even if you aren't a golf fan, this is good stuff to watch. Phil just birdied again, so he's up two again.
No, it's not baseball, or football, which got started this weekend, but it's good lazyman fun. What I mean by that is that this is stuff you can watch without driving, without paying outrageous parking fees, and without paying $15 bucks for a hotdog and a Coke. For you, and everybody tagging along with you.
No...for this you can lay on the couch, or your favorite chair, and if you're lucky you can even get someone to bring food and refreshments. I get this done providing financial incentives to anyone within range, and it works 99% of the time, like today.
One of the household was in need, or will be in need soon, so they delivered some good pizza.
And some Fiji Water, which is my preferred brand.
So now there are two holes to go, and I'm adjusting my pillow, which somebody fetched for me.
Life is good.
A big scare for Phil on 17, but he is saved by a tree...mendous chip shot. Tiger misses a birdie putt attempt.
Both hit incredible drives on 18, but Phil birdies, and that is preety much all she wrote for this weekend.
I do believe that this is the first time Phil has ever beaten Tiger down the stretch. Good for him.
Now Phil is rolling around in the grass with his kids. This may be the best advertisement for the PGA ever made, and it isn't staged.
Nothing beats spontaneous human emotion.
Phil just picked up a million new fans.
Let's hope the PGA learns something from the footage.
From the big saddle,Jim Whelan
