As of yesterday, eight people have been arrested in the U.K. and elsewhere for the attempted car bombings in London and the attack on the airport in Glasgow by use of a flaming vehicle. What makes these arrests unique in all of the terrorist acts committed in the name of Allah is that all of those arrested were either medical doctors or had some link to the medical profession.
Okay, so these eight have not yet been charged let alone convicted of anything but the presumption of innocence applies to individuals, not to groups. Although the guilt or innocence each individual has not yet been determined, we can safely assume that there were plots to attack various targets in the U.K. and that these were planned and carried out by immigrant doctors. There will of course be those that accuse the British authorities of being bored and instead of arresting Muslims at random the police decided to arrest doctors; just for a laugh you understand. Those that think that way think that way are the same ones who think that George Bush brought down the World Trade Center with the help of Mossad. Mass arrests of Muslim lawyers will probably be next; you can imagine the mixed emotions that that will bring to the Muslim community in Britain.
With this latest plot, perhaps, just perhaps, the apologists for the terrorists (apologies to Prime Minister Gordon Brown) will give up on the ridiculous notion that poverty and despair is the cause of Islamic terrorism. It's never had any basis in fact but it allowed America haters in the West to show sympathy to those who are trying to destroy us. Poverty has never had anything to do with the jihad being waged against Western civilization. If poverty and hopelessness were the root causes (the lefties really love that term, root causes), of terrorist acts, Montreal's Metro would have been blown up years ago by Haitians. And many Africans would be sending their little kids out to blow themselves up. But in this age of political correctness, too many people deny the fact that these attacks have anything to do with Islam despite the fact that the perpetrators of these acts clearly state why they do what they do.
The education levels and social standing of the current suspects reminds us of former Prime Minister Jean Chrtien's remarks on the somber first anniversary of 9/11. Chrtien blamed the "arrogance and greed of the West" that saw the towers fall, the Pentagon attacked and almost 3,000 people die that day. And in case anyone has any illusions, Da Boss wasn't talking about Alberta when he mentioned the West; he meant the United States. The tragedy of 9/11 was used as a prop to entertain the strong anti-American faction of the Liberal party. And there was no sense letting facts get in the way of an attack on our neighbour to the south.
When it comes to the reality of modern day terrorism, Canada's rapidly aging New Government isn't much better. Last month, when ABC broadcast that a ceremony had taken place for Taliban graduates, Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day downplayed it; he said it was merely propaganda and a p.r. exercise. Perhaps Day should travel to the U.K. and meet with those who were in the nearby London clubs when the car bombs were discovered and the people who were in the Glasgow terminal when the flaming vehicle approached. Tell them that it's all just a p.r. exercise. Where is Anne McLellan when you really need her?
Terrorist doctors might now just be the in thing for jihadis. Canada, like Britain has a doctor shortage where the solution is to bring in foreign doctors. Andy Knight, a University of Alberta specialist in industrial relations said that our screening of foreign doctors is not sufficient. But the reality is that no amount of screening will reveal who is likely to be a radical and who is not. A "brilliant neurosurgeon" is not likely to have a criminal record. The only solution to this problem, other than to end all Muslim immigration is to watch these doctors after they have arrived. It is doubtful that we have the resources to do that.
It is too soon to tell if what happened last weekend will put an end to the poverty excuse that those on the left use to rationalize away terrorist acts. But if we don't face up to the reality of what is actually happening, we might as well save time and money and surrender to the enemy.
