The 100-million Canadian tax dollars, with which the federal Liberal government floated its Adscam sponsorship program, may be lost forever in faraway Costa Rica.
A popular playground for well-heeled Canadians with Liberal connections, Costa Rica is home to the United Nations University for Peace. Prime Minister Paul Martin mentor Maurice Strong, being litigated against by the Costa Rican government over a land deal, is still listed as president of the UPeace council.
Don Martin?

On Thursday, accusations were made that there was a connection between the Liberal Party of Canada and organized crime. The charges were leveled by Stephen Harper, leader of the opposition. Our prime minister categorically denied the charge, and furiously demanded that Mr. Harper issue an apology. According to legislation tabled by the Liberals under Jean Chretien, however, the accusation is right on the money.

In the postcard-perfect town of Escazu, Costa Rica, all some residents want for Christmas is an end of party boy Canadian Jean Lafleur in their midst.
Late-night bacchanals starring Lafleur and his constant companion "Larry" have launched Lafleur as "Costa Ricas most unpopular gringo".

A TOP TEN LIST OF GOMERY HYPOCRISY

In the last of the closing legal arguments at the Gomery Inquiry, Sylvain Lussier, private Counsel to the Attorney-General of Canada, made a startling statement to the Commissioner. After vouching for the piety of conscience and purity of knowledge of both Prime Ministers Martin and Chrétien, he said that though it is true that former Public Works Minister Alfonso Gagliano put himself in difficult positions by attending meetings he could have refrained from, and though he did not impose the appropriate departmental rigour for which he should bear Ministerial responsibility, Mr. Gagliano had done "nothing illegal". Furthermore, Me. Lussier went on, the political direction Mr. Gagliano provided in certain files was fully appropriate with his elected position. To quote Me. Lussier, "We elect politicians to make decisions and to show direction."

It's hard to believe but looking back on the ChrÈtien/Martin era in the years to come the sponsorship scandal may be the high point.
Adscam -- it's much worse than Watergate
By Arthur Weinreb, Associate Editor,
Tuesday, June 7, 2005
Now that the former second in command of the FBI has come out and acknowledged that he was the infamous Deep Throat, the Watergate scandal has re-emerged in near 1970s proportion. As evidence of this, All the Presidents Men--the book that was written by Washington Post reporters, Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, is on its way to becoming a best seller-- again.
Adscam: do many Canadians care?
by Arthur Weinreb, Associate Editor,
Tuesday, April 5, 2005
There is now talk of a snap election as a result of the explosive testimony of Quebec advertising executive, Jean Brault before the Gomery Commission. Braults testimony, the publication of which has been banned by Justice Gomery pending the completion of Braults criminal charges, supposedly alleges serious wrongdoing of senior members of the Liberal Party. Notwithstanding that fact, it is hard to believe that something like Adscam could actually trigger an election.

Canada's Conservatives: Ready to Govern?
by Nick Nikopoulos
Wednesday, April 6, 2005
Close to 3,000 registered delegates recently gathered in beautiful Montreal to attend the first ever political convention of Canadas newest political party, the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC). The choice of Montreal was strategic since it will be in Quebec were the ruling Liberals could lose power in Canadas tenuous minority Government in decades. From 1993, the Liberals who have governed Canada, finally face a real threat to be ousted by the united opposition of Canadas other parties. While a number of issues like accountability, waste, national missile defense with the US, and same sex marriage, have dominated Canadian politics since last years Federal election, it is corruption and scandal in dealing with Quebec that could prove to be the final undoing of the Liberals.
In Grits We Distrust
by Paul Albers
Wednesday, February 9, 2005 How can anyone believe Justice Minister Irwin Cotler when he claims the
government's same-sex legislation will not affect religious freedoms? Over and over again the Liberals have proven that they either don't understand what freedom of religion is, or they don't really care about protecting it. I would rather trust Don Cherry to run a charm school than trust the Liberals to protect the free exercise of religion.
