Our 40th president’s birthday earlier this month caused me to reflect upon how Ronald Reagan impacted my life.

In 1981, I was a young singer/songwriter, clueless about politics, when Ronald Reagan won the presidency. An event planner asked me to perform at an Inaugural Ball.

Is the media really trying to convince us that someone other than Satan himself has taken over America?  It didn’t start with Obama, but we could at least begin to take our country back by being rid of Obama next election.

The 2013 Defense Department budget presented by the Obama administration cuts military spending by $487 billion over 10 years, which translates into eliminating six Air Force fighter squadrons, cutting 16 ships from the Navy, and reducing the Army and Marine Corps by 80,000 to 100,000 troops over five years.  Our erroneous thinking is that future wars will be fought with more high technology weapons and fewer troops.  The problem is we could lose highly qualified military personnel because of the cutbacks in the size of our military and changes to their benefits.  The end result could mean we will have a plethora of high technology weapon systems available, but lack the quantity and quality of non-commissioned and commissioned military leaders to employ the equipment.

Today is Ash Wednesday — the first day of Lent — the beginning of 40 days of prayer and fasting observed by Christians across the country, culminating in the Easter feast. Likewise in April, Jews will gather to celebrate Passover, one of many traditions observed under the religious freedom that the U.S. Constitution was designed to preserve. Now, though, that freedom is under direct attack by the very government that purports to represent the people, and that is but the first step in Obamacare’s re-writing of America’s blueprint.

I have learned that forgiveness is extremely important. In my youth, I was care giver for an elderly neighbor dying of Cancer. On his death bed, he uttered, “I have forgiven my brother”.

The Wyoming legislature failed to consider the pension reform bill HB0091 during the current legislative session, and that is bad news. In many states, plans that are supposed to pay government workers their promised pension do not have enough money. But taxpayers, many of whom do not even have a pension plan, are taxed to put more money into the bureaucrat retirement kitty. HB0091 attempted to increase the financial security for government retirees and stop this taxpayer abuse. It would have closed the current pension system to new employees and provided them with the type of pension plan now common in the private sector.

Americans need to now now, before the election, what is at stake with energy prices.

The now-famous picture of Arizona Governor Jan Brewer shaking her finger at President Barack Obama is both appropriate and deserved. In America, we don’t have rulers entitled to the deference and obsequiousness other countries show to their kings; our elected officials are ordinary citizens whom we are free to criticize.

Now that the recent controversy over contraception and health insurance between US Catholics and Obama has left the front pages, many in the media think things will go on as usual between the Vatican and the Obama administration. They couldn’t be more mistaken.
