ObamaThe Obama administration is sorely in need of a massive public showcase to gin up their flagging public image. They need that showcase both as a means of distraction to go behind the scenes to redirect their health care overhaul, and as an opportunity to try to put a human face on who became during health care debate, the “Hide-Your-Granny-From-Him” Nightmare President. Big on props and imagery from the get go, Barack Hussein Obama was presented to 80,000 supporters at last August’s Democratic National Convention on a stage resembling an ancient Greek temple. Trumping even the most outlandish rock star eye candy, Obama came striding out to a podium that could be raised from beneath the floor at Invesco Field.

Politics is 90% perception and he’s been striding as chief anti-American and harrumphing “I won!” ever since. The props and plants of Obama in the White House were doing just fine, Thank You Very Much until they began running into that solid brick wall of the Town Halls attended by savvy middle class taxpayers saddled with paying for the ego of their lifetime. Looking more tattered and shop worn than your average laurel headed Greek god these days, Obama is losing the groove on his phony Messiah-hood, and you can bet the family farm that his astroturf masters are frantically on the hunt for the right public showcase to restore that loss of face. Are Obama handlers looking to the pomp potential of a Ted Kennedy funeral as their next presidential showcase? Riding on the coattails of a distant Camelot is a recognized Democrat trait. Was it all that long ago when another egomaniac called John Kerry emphasized that his initials were one and the same as JFK’s? It was even less long ago when Ted Kennedy passed the JFK mantle on to Obama, and as time was to prove the veteran senator’s backing was a huge boost to the media darling senator from ThugTown Chicago. “It was as close as it gets to a coronation. In front of a rapturous, chanting crowd, Senator Ted Kennedy yesterday enfolded Barack Obama into a hug, and in that instant drew a clear line of succession from the Democratic hero of the past to a younger generation.” (buzzle.com - 1/28/08). “Now it was official: Obama was the rightful political heir to John F. Kennedy as designated by his brother Ted, his daughter Caroline, and his nephew Patrick. “I feel change in the air,” Ted Kennedy roared, and the crowd roared with him.” Last week Obama awarded Sen. Kennedy the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the country’s highest civilian honor. In announcing the award for Kennedy, a nine-term senator who is fighting brain cancer, the White House called him “one of the greatest lawmakers--and leaders--of our time.” The award came as Democrats in Congress and Obama are pushing for healthcare reform legislation, which has long been the issue closest to Kennedy’s heart, as dutifully noted in the White House press release. Ted Kennedy was too ill to be there when they laid his legendary sister Eunice Shriver to rest on Friday. Ted Kennedy, when he goes, has family members who deserve privacy in their grief. But will the Democrats, desperate to prop up a leader whose halo is slipping, show any respect for the privacy of Kennedy grievers with this all-consuming need to get in there to touch up their leader’s public portrait? The Dems and their Hollywood and media running dogs, who excel at hypocrisy’s crocodile tears, would pull every plug to milk the last drop of publicity from any opportunity available. Few opportunities in real time would offer the television potential for the “grief stricken” Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid Dems than a Kennedy funeral. They’ve been chafing at the bit ever since every day Americans, many of them in their senior years, chased their representatives into humiliating late-summer exile. Meantime, would a Ted Kennedy funeral provide the public bath of pathos of all time for camera-preening hypocritical Democrats? Only time will tell. But the way things are looking right now, better brace yourself.
