Dana Jacobson, Notre Dame was not amused...

ESPN: A Classic Do-As-I-Say, Not-As-I-Do

For those of you who watch "ESPN First Take" in the later morning, may have noticed something missing. Something like... the co-host?

Dana Jacobson has reportedly been suspended for "remarks" she made at the January 12th roast of morning talksters Mike Golic and Mike Greenberg (Mike & Mike In The Morning) in Atlantic City. dana-jacobson.jpgThe pressofatlanticcity.com reports that Jacobson was so drunk and foul-mouthed, that she was booed off the stage.
ESPN anchor Dana Jacobson made an absolute fool of herself, swilling vodka from a Belvedere bottle, mumbling along and cursing like a sailor as Mike & Mike rested their heads in their hands in embarrassment. (Comedian Eddie) Griffin came to the podium to defend her after she was booed by the crowd. Ross eventually had to pull her off stage, too.
Aside from her perpetuation of the foul-mouthed sailor thing, what could she have said that was so bad that she was booed off the stage, and suspended by ESPN? According to a report by someone in attendance at the event, Dana Jacobson's rant included the following...
"# Notre Dame" "# touchdown Jesus" "# Jesus"
Needless to say, Notre Dame was not amused...
While we in no way condone Ms. Jacobson's comments, we're aware of the circumstances in which they occurred, and in the interest of forgiveness, trust that she and ESPN will address the matter in an appropriate way. Notre Dame spokesman Dennis Brown
While not officially confirmed, Jacobson is reportedly serving a one-week suspension
Her actions and comments were inappropriate and we've dealt with it. ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz
Liberals usually have to be dragged kicking and screaming to an acknowledgment of wrongdoing, that is, unless what he or she did was very public. And of course, in our tolerant, inclusive world, all Jacobson had to do (especially when you're a liberal) is say she's "sorry" in a statement. Too bad tears don't translate to print...
dana1.jpgI am sorry. My remarks about Notre Dame were foolish and insensitive. I respect all religions and did not mean anything derogatory by my poorly chosen words.
Hmmm. I wonder what words she would've preferred using...?
I also deeply regret the embarrassment I've caused ESPN and Mike and Mike. My actions at the roast were inappropriate and in no way represent who I am. I won't make excuses for my behavior, but I do hope I can be forgiven for such a poor lack of judgment.
Yeah, I know. It was the vodka talking, but the Catholic League isn't quite ready to let it go...
Then there is the matter of Jacobson's so-called apology. By far the most offensive thing she said, 'F*** Jesus,' isn't even addressed! It is obvious, then, that neither Jacobson nor ESPN is dealing with this matter in a professional way. To put this issue behind them, ESPN must deal with this issue quickly, publicly and fairly, something it has yet to do. After all, most Christians are yet unaware of this event, but once they learn of it, they are sure to demand accountability.
While she hasn't been quoted as apologizing to Christians, or Jesus himself, it would appear Dana Jacobson has been "forgiven", as she's still employed, for now. She's lucky she only went off on those intolerant Christians, because had she said the same thing about Muslims, she'd be in the Witness Protection Program today. To think that an organization with as many liberal sports commentators as ESPN would even take such an action, instead of excusing it "free speech", is notable. Then again, if a conservative said the f-word and attached it to a liberal icon, he or she would have probably been canned. Tell me I'm wrong....
