Pembina/Suzuki report recommendations severely damaging to West and all Canadians

CALGARY, AB – On December 10, Canada West Foundation will release a critique of the recently released Pembina Institute and David Suzuki Foundation study titled Climate Leadership, Economic Prosperity.

Hoping the flaws were an oversight, and using data from the report, Canada West Foundation illustrates how it underestimates the severe, negative effects on the western Canadian economy, and thus the entire Canadian economy, should the policies suggested be implemented to meet the current greenhouse gas reduction target set by the Government of Canada. “An important challenge going forward is the badly needed, but still only embryonic, national energy discussion to ensure that national policies designed to meet greenhouse gas emission reduction targets do not unfairly disadvantage any part of the country,” says Dr Roger Gibbins, President and CEO, Canada West Foundation, and the critique's author. “The Pembina/Suzuki report is essential reading for understanding what not to do when it comes to a climate change policy,” he adds. The critique will be distributed, and Gibbins will be available for interviews in Calgary, starting at 6 am mountain time, on December 10. An embargoed copy of the critique will be available starting at noon mountain time, on December 9. Canada West Foundation is the only think tank dedicated to being the objective, non-partisan voice for issues of vital concern to western Canadians. For 40 years, through its research and commentary, the Foundation has contributed to better government decisions and a stronger Canadian economy.
