B’nai Brith Canada is marking Yom HaShoah - Holocaust Remembrance Day - with memorial ceremonies across Canada honouring the victims. Following “Unto Every Person There is a Name” ceremonies last Friday in the Greater Toronto Area, B’nai Brith will be holding similar events in Montreal on Monday, April 12th and in Winnipeg on Monday, April 12th and Wednesday, April 14th. B’nai Brith Midwest Region will also be organizing an Interfaith Yom HaShoah Ceremony in Winnipeg on Sunday, April 18th. In Toronto, the League for Human Rights of B’nai Brith has joined with the Law Society of Upper Canada to host a special commemorative forum on bringing war criminals to justice on Monday, April 12th.
“Six million Jews were mercilessly slaughtered in the Holocaust. Each and every one of the six million was an individual whose life was tragically taken away from them due to the antisemitism of their murderers. Each individual victim of the Holocaust deserves to be honoured and remembered as each one of them was someone’s mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, daughter or son. It is those individuals who we hope to bring back to life for a moment in time as we read their names during the many Yom HaShoah memorial ceremonies held across the country,” said Frank Dimant, Executive Vice President of B’nai Brith Canada. “As we witness antisemitism reaching disturbing levels not seen in decades, it is especially important that we ensure that the lessons and memory of the Holocaust are not forgotten.”
