Please read the following press release and articles.  Pass the word to everyone…do not sign the “Tea Party” petition.  The policy of the Michigan Tea Party Alliance, and all of the Tea Parties and 9.12 Projects in Michigan has been that at this time we will not become a third party.  As the press release says, “...this is a dirty trick” and , “Tea Party insiders adamantly oppose the idea.”

Imposter Tea Party Group Launches Third Party Petition Drive

Wendy Day, President Common Sense in Government

We learned today that a group called “Tea Party” has launched a petition drive to add a third party to the ballot in Michigan. Petitions are being circulated in the Metro Detroit area using paid signature gathers. This story was first reported by outsidelansing.com

“This effort is in no way tied to the Tea Party groups that I’m aware of,” says Wendy Day, President of Common Sense in Government. “This sounds like a liberal Democrat effort to split the conservative vote in Michigan.”

While many have wondered if the Tea Party movement would become a third political party, Tea Party insiders adamantly oppose the idea. “The voters need clear choices in November”, says Mark Petzhold, a Tea Party member from West Michigan. “Trying to confuse them is a dirty trick and goes against everything the Tea Party stands for.”

The Tea Party movement in Michigan has many groups and many leaders, many of which currently working on their own petition effort through Michigan Citizens for Healthcare Freedom. Healthcare has been a cornerstone issue for the Tea Party, and the coalition is working to protect Michigan citizens from Government run healthcare.

“We are not sure if this is just an effort to muck up the political waters in November, or to also somehow interrupt the real petition being done by many in the Tea Party. Either way, whoever is behind this effort should be ashamed of themselves.” says Day.
