Obama Open Mic Snafu: ‘You Think We’re Stupid’

At a private meeting with Chicago area donors, Barack Obama leveled some though talk at Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner and the Republicans. His posturing, we are told, was supposed to be private for the ears of his donors only but the White House communications staffers left Obama’s microphone up with the feed going straight to the general press corps.

CBS Radio News White House correspondent Mark Knoller happened to be listening to the feed and made some notes on what Obama said. One thing Knoller heard was an Obama claiming to have been a tough guy with Boehner daring the Speaker to try and cut funds to abortion mill operator Planned Parenthood.

“Put it in a separate bill,” the president. “We’ll call it up. And if you think you can overturn my veto, try it. But don’t try to sneak this through.”

Of course, no one was trying to “sneak” anything through anywhere. Obama’s characterization is absurd since the Planned Parenthood segment of the GOP budget was a hot topic all across the country on talk radio, TV, and the print media. It was well known, no effort at a “sneaking” the cuts through occurred.

Obama also trumpeted his resolve on his Obamacare bill.

“I said (to Republicans), ‘You want to repeal health care? Go at it,’” he told supporters. “‘We’ll have that debate. You’re not going to be able to do that by nickel-and-diming me in the budget. You think we’re stupid?’”

Obama also went on to again personally attack Representative Paul Ryan (R, WS) and his budget plan.

When Paul Ryan says his priority is to make sure, he’s just being America’s accountant … This is the same guy that voted for two wars that were unpaid for, voted for the Bush tax cuts that were unpaid for, voted for the prescription drug bill that cost as much as my health care bill — but wasn’t paid for. So it’s not on the level.

This incident is being reported as an “accident” by his communications staff. But these remarks are forming the basis of his attacks on the GOP, so it is of a piece with his campaign to crush the effectiveness of the new GOP led House.

Sadly, Obama is getting down in the mud and not acting very presidential. He’s personally attacking individual Republicans, he’s name calling, he’s claiming his Republican opponents are un-American, that they want to kill people, that they are liars… yet at the same time he keeps claiming he wants to “work together” to get the job done?

On one hand he personally attacks people and on the other scolds them for not wanting to work with him while at the same time he offers not a single compromise to his big spending, tax raising agenda. This president is not in the slightest bit serious about recognizing that the U.S. electorate voted his party and his agenda down. He neither wants to work with the resurgent GOP nor does he want to listen to the voters.
