WWII Veterans tell their stories in new documentary

HONOUR: Their Stories, Our History

Mississauga, ON Footage from first hand interviews of WWII veterans is being released as a new documentary HONOUR: Their Stories, Our History. The humble but moving interviews were recorded as part of the making of the 2010 book HONOUR
Last year, in honour of the 65th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, Chartwell Seniors Housing published HONOUR. The book featured the photos and profiles of individuals who were veterans or supported the war effort and lived in a Chartwell residence. The 35 stunning photos of the veterans were taken by world renowned Canadian photographer Yuri Dojc and accompanied by intimate stories of their experiences as written by Sharon Henderson, Chartwell’s Vice President of Communication and Public Affairs. “We realize the rapid rate at which Canada is losing its Second World War veterans because many of those veterans live with us,” said Brent Binions, President and CEO of Chartwell, Seniors Housing REIT. “Preserving their unique history is the right thing to do for all Canadians but most especially for future generations.”

In addition to the photos and stories featured in the book, many of the interviews were taped. That footage has been used to create a special Canadian documentary “HONOUR: Their Stories, Our History.” The resulting documentary carries a timely and poignant message for all Canadians about the sometimes ordinary, and often extraordinary, reminiscences of these individuals and how close we are to losing this piece of history. View the trailer on YouTube. HONOUR is available through (Link) or at Chartwell homes across Canada. Net proceeds of this book are donated to Canadian organizations committed to the remembrance of Canada's veterans including The War Amps Operation Legacy. Chartwell Seniors Housing owns and operates retirement homes and long term care homes across North America.
