McGuinty Vows to Sabotage Democracy

(QUEEN’S PARK) –Randy Hillier, MPP for Lanark-Frontenac-Lennox and Addington, supported two measures yesterday that will have a significant impact on Ontario families. The first successful motion to pass in the new Legislature was to hold the McGuinty Government accountable for their election promises of hospital expansion projects.
The House now requires that Dalton McGuinty table, by March 1, 2012, a detailed plan that outlines the costs, a timeline for completion, and how the government plans to pay for the construction and operation of all the hospital expansion projects promised before and during the 2011 Ontario General Election. Hillier also voted in support of a Private Members Bill that will remove the HST off of home heating. During the recent provincial election both the PC and NDP party platforms committed to eliminating the provincial portion of the HST on home heating bills to provide relief to skyrocketing heating bills.

Despite a 54-50 vote from the opposition, McGuinty has stated he will circumvent the will of Parliament and not allow these measures to proceed. Quotes: “I was very pleased yesterday to have an opportunity to hold this Liberal minority government to account. For the past eight years we have had no recourse against McGuinty’s majority, yesterday signified that the times have changed.” - Randy Hillier, MPP “Removing the HST off of home heating bills is a promise I made to my constituents, and I will not stand by and allow McGuinty to demonstrate contempt for Parliament.” - Randy Hillier, MPP
