Mitt Saved Lives:  Who Knew?

If character matters again, conservatives can take some time out from grousing about being stuck with Romney as their candidate and spend a little time doing a some vetting on their own. Who knew, for example, that back in 2003, Mitt Romney saved a family and their dog from drowning?
[W]ay back in the summer of 2003, the then-Massachusetts governor made the news for a very different reason: He helped save a Tewksbury family from drowning in New Hampshire’s Lake Winnipesaukee.
The Morrisseys of Tewksbury were motoring their vintage wooden boat through the large lake on July 4 weekend that year when, around sunset and about 300 yards from shore, the vessel began taking on water.
Robert Morrissey attempted to dial 911 on his cell phone, only to lose the device in the water as the boat started sinking rapidly.
That’s when Romney, who owns a home on the shore of the lake, and two of his sons jumped on jet skis and rode out to assist the six people, along with the family dog, struggling in the water.
The Romneys took two of the passengers ashore, and others in the area helped the rest of the family — and the dog, too — make it back to land without injury.

Contemplate this, Romney haters.  Can you close your eyes and imagine Barack Obama doing the same thing?  Of course not.  Not unless the entire incident was orchestrated by one of his absurdly overpaid Hollywood nitwit nutz complete with camera crew and special effects. I've yet to hear Romney mention the incident. In 1996, the 14-year-old daughter of Robert Gay, a partner in the newly formed and now much maligned Bain Capital disappeared.  Three days after the girl had attended a rave party, her distraught father had no idea where she was. Romney immediately took control of the situation.  He shut down the firm and asked all 30 employees and partners to fly to New York to look for the missing girl.
Romney set up a command center in a conference room at the LaGuardia Marriott just outside Manhattan. He hired a private detective firm to assist with the search and established a toll-free number for tips, coordinating the effort with the New York City Police Department, but he still wasn't satisfied. He raced through his Rolodex and called everyone Bain did business with in New York. He asked them to help his company find their friend's missing daughter. The company's accounting firm, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and its law firm, put up posters on street poles with a photo of the missing teenager. Cashiers at Duane Reade Pharmacies, which was owned by Bain Capital, put fliers in the bag of each shopper. Romney and others from the Bain Capital posse trudged through every part of New York, even scouring Central Park, and talked with everyone they could - prostitutes, drug addicts - anyone who may have seen her. They also made rounds at the local nightclubs at 3 a.m., hoping someone somewhere could identify her.
Romney made sure the girl's picture was shown on the news networks.  She was found in a basement in New Jersey suffering from an overdose of ecstasy.  Had she not been found when she was, she would not have survived. Now, that's a guy with management skills. Of course, Mitt can't run around telling everyone about the time he saved a drowning family or saved a young girl's life.  But, Anne Romney and his kids sure can.  We can. Yeah, yeah, he's not the perfect conservative.  We all know about that, it's been argued to death.  But he's who we have.  And, underneath it all, there is some genuine character.  It's been a long time since we've seen that in the Oval Office.  It's sort of like turning on a light in the middle of the night.  It takes your eyes a few minutes to adjust. Focus on getting Mitt elected.  Then we can give it all we've got to push him to the right. The next time you find yourself fuming about Romney being our nominee, take a deep breath and think of the drowning family.  If that doesn't help you settle down, think of the alternative.
