Regime's defining moment

Obama’s Space Shuttle funeral dirge a show for all to see

Those lucky enough to still be here to look back at history post Barack Obama will recognize the last sight-piggyback funeral dirge of the once noble Space Shuttle as the Obama Regime’s defining moment. Were an artist to paint a picture of a small boy looking at up at his flying kite as the space shuttle passed over Manhattan yesterday, no portrait of the story of America’s deliberate ruin at the hands of a single politician could ever come closer to the truth.
“Space shuttle Enterprise flies to NYC,” was yesterday’s headline on Fox News. Fox got it wrong. It should be “Space shuttle Enterprise had to be flown to NYC.

The Space shuttle Enterprise no longer flies under its own steam, and as long as Obama is there, never will again. The mighty Space Shuttle has become a disused relic. “Enterprise zoomed around the city, riding piggyback on top of a modified jumbo jet. Its trip included flyovers over parts of the city and landmarks including the Statue of Liberty and the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum on Manhattan’s west side, before landing at its temporary home, Kennedy Airport.” (FoxNews.com, April 27, 2012) What a sign of our times that as the shuttle passed Manhattan, people gathered on rooftops to stare up into the skies, and observed as it passed by the Hudson River from ferries and boat craft of all kinds. Like the funeral train of a president travelling cross country, Enterprise’s sister the Discovery was flown in its full funeral regalia over Washington only two weeks ago. “The shuttle prototype was housed at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington but will soon be making its home at the Intrepid, where according to Intrepid president Susan Marenoff-Zausner, it will be “the largest and most significant space artifact in the entire Northeast”. Underline the word ‘artifact’ in Marenoff-Zausner’s description. There is no life but only dead history in artifacts. “Enterprise comes to New York as part of NASA’s process of wrapping up the shuttle program, which ended last summer. At the Smithsonian, its place has been taken by the shuttle Discovery. Shuttle Endeavor is going to Los Angeles and shuttle Atlanta is staying at Florida’s Kennedy Space Center.” (Fox News). “Enterprise has never been used in an actual space mission, but was a full-scale test vehicle used for flights in the atmosphere and experiments on the ground.” It is hoped that public interest in the shuttle will increase the number of annual visits to the Intrepid by 30%, to 1.3 million over the course of a year. Few will remember that it was on the fullest moon of the year last January when NASA scientists were told they wouldn’t be able to visit any longer and that in his new budget, President Obama planned to eliminate the space program’s manned moon missions. Now that it’s all over, NASA is left behind with its glory days fast fading as the shill to entice companies to build private spacecraft to ferry astronauts to the space station after the space shuttle retires. In Obama’s Ban Free Market world, how many volunteer entrepreneurs will build private spacecraft to ferry astronauts to the NASA-abandoned space station? The American moon mission was America’s finest moment in time, signaling to the world not just proof of American ingenuity but keeping aflame man’s dream to reach the moon. In this final chapter, Obama didn’t just gut the space program’s manned moon missions, he flew proof of America’s dead dream over Washington and New York landmarks. The American astronaut and the concept of space shuttles have been relegated almost overnight to the obscurity of museum relics. Every child who flies a kite with big dreams of someday reaching the moon will look to the space missions of other nations now and not their own.
