Governor Rick Scott has appointed a task force to review Florida’s “Stand Your Ground Law”. This follows the highly publicized Trayvon Martin case and the subsequent pressure applied to the Governor.
This was not the first murder committed by someone who felt threatened. The details of that night are still coming to light and Florida is one of many states to have such a law. So, why the knee-jerk reaction to the Sanford incident?
Murders happen everyday but few get the national coverage nor the outrage we saw from black leaders. And none get the President to side with the victim before the facts are known. If the investigation had been completed before the President, the Black Panthers, Jessie Jackson, etc, had come running to Florida to stir up controversy, it is doubtful the task force would have been appointed at this time.
If the law is to be reviewed it should not be in the fallout from of this tempest in a tea pot.
The Governor has caved to the people who have an interest in disarming the American people not in seeing that justice is served.
