Presidential election choice is suboptimal, as usual

Election choices are so poor that I am not surprised so few Americans even bother to vote each November. Democrats are so disappointing as they continue to chip away at our underlying American culture and values in pursuit of their socialist nirvana. Republicans are also disappointing since they talk a good game but, when push comes to shove, they too incrementally expand government but at a slower pace.
Like many others, I quit the major political parties years ago to register as an Independent. It was clear that my only value to either party was as a financial contributor, since they sure did not value my political opinions or preferred candidates. The TEA Party movement appeared to be my salvation as millions of like minded individuals rose up to say “Enough, I will not take this anymore!” Unfortunately based on the candidates I see, we still have a long way to go to achieve truly representative government. I wish I could vote FOR a Presidential candidate, but more likely I will again vote AGAINST the other candidate… holding my nose when I depress the lever to vote for whoever is left. My voting record reflects my lack of enthusiasm for either party:

1968: voted AGAINST Hubert Humphrey 1972: voted AGAINST George McGovern 1976: voted AGAINST Jimmy Carter 1980: voted FOR Ronald Reagan 1984: voted FOR Ronald Reagan 1988: voted AGAINST Michael Dukakis 1992: voted FOR Ross Perot 1996: voted AGAINST Bill Clinton 2000: voted AGAINST Al Gore 2004: voted AGAINST John Kerry 2008: voted AGAINST Barack Obama 2012: will vote AGAINST Barack Obama There is so much wrong with our federal government today, so much damage that must be repaired, so many government departments, agencies, commissions etc. that should be dismantled. Our federal government has been slowly expanded over the last 100 years, so I do not expect any administration to fix it in a single term. Mitt Romney does not impress me as someone who shares this vision or will vigorously pursue these goals. I fully expect this businessman, turned politician, to try to slow the growth of government with some success. The only good news is that he is a damn site better than another disastrous four years under Barack Obama!
