Politically Correct Pandering During Gay Pride Month

A recent White House reception held in honor of Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month, where President Barack Obama celebrated a 1969 anti-police riot that started in what the New York Times reports was an illegal Mafia-owned bar for transvestites, stirs up memories of when the politically correct era was still in its salad days.

It was a long ago Christmas time when a reader sent a letter to the forerunner to Canada Free Press, Our Toronto, laying out instructions about how the angel gracing that year’s Christmas tree should look so as not to offend any group or minority. The letter writer was intentionally uproarious and reviewing his letter from memory some 15 years later loses much of the original hilarity. The Christmas angel atop this year’s tree, the letter writer suggested, should be put up on an angle, as a reminder that diversity now fully recognizes that it is far more than just a straight heterosexual world.

One of the angel’s legs should be smaller than the other, showing an attempt by the tree trimmer to include all those with physical disabilities. The angel’s dress should never be white as that would be blatantly racist. But the funniest instruction was that the angel of no specific gender should wear a kilt, in case the Scots should take their absence on Christmas tree angels in the rest of the world, as a supreme insult. Together, we’ve stood resolute; unwavering in our commitment to advance this movement and to build a more perfect union.” The “Stonewall Riot” that president Obama referred to started when police raided a New York City saloon called the “Stonewall Inn’ that catered to transvestites. In a 2010 obituary for Seymour Pine, the police inspector who led the raid, the New York Times reported the basic facts of the incident, describing the inn as “an illegal club frequented by cross-dressers. “The club, on Christopher Street near Seventh Avenue South, was owned by members of the Mafia,” the Times reported. “Inspector Pine later said he conducted the raid on orders from superiors. “About 200 people were inside,” said the Times. “When the officers ordered them to line up and show identification, some refused. Several transvestites refused to submit to anatomical inspections. World of the raid filtered into the street, and soon hundreds of protesters gathered outside, shouting ‘gay power’ and calling the police ‘pigs’.” Obama can dredge up an event from 43 years ago, describing it in such passionate l terms, but ignore the elderly and children being groped by TSA agents at airports. Centering out transgenders does not guarantee their acceptance into society. We should be celebrating our differences rather than allowing pandering governments to mandate them. How I wish people like the beautiful black woman who once left left -leaning Toronto Board of Education trustees with their mouths agape were today’s warriors on the politically correct battle field. The woman came before the Toronto Board of Education to fight for “the best public education possible” for her elementary school aged son, Johnny, when trustees were trying to force their controversial Heritage Language program on the public school system. During Heritage Language, children like Johnny would be pulled out of home room classes to attend African language and culture studies. His mother, who said she earned her living as a char lady, told the trustees, “Me and other parents like me do not want you to treat our children any different than all the other children who attend school. The point is we want our children to be taught the same; to grow up to be the best they can be.” Johnny’s Mother was right on target and the silence from normally garrulous Socialist board trustees after her presentation was the only one I’d ever witnessed in all the years I’d covered the Education Beat for the Toronto Sun. Meanwhile, here’s betting that not all transvestites are waiting to be rescued by a politician cashing in on their just being different.
