Manu ‘Militari’It’s Canada Day here in the liberty-loving Land of the Maple Leaf and Canada Day 2012 has been stained by the release of a video celebrating the slaughter of Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan while portraying the Taliban as heroes. Thanks to National Post investigative journalist Stuart Bell, news of Montreal rapper Manu Militari’s video release came before Canada Day’s fireworks displays in thousands of cities and towns.
That’s the video, but ‘Manu ‘Militari’ staged the release of the allbum song “L’Attente” the video celebrates for the 11th anniversary of September 11, 2001. “While some are understandably offended, the song would likely have been ignored were Manu Militari not a subsidized rapper who had received more than $100,000 from a group funded by the Canadian Heritage department.” (Stuart Bell, June 29, 2012). “A spokesman for James Moore, the Minister of Canadian Heritage, said Friday the money had been handed out by the federally-funded non-profit MusicAction and officials were “looking at options” to ensure it did not happen again.” Too bad the Canadian Heritage department had not found an option before the MPs of all five political parties show up to cut the cakes touting Canadian flags at today’s countless Canada Day celebrations.

“The content of this song is offensive,” said Sébastien Gariépy, the Minister’s Press Secretary. “To glorify the Taliban and their terrorism is indefensible and wrong. MusicAction’s contribution to this group does not meet the conditions of government of Canadian funding. Appropriate measures will be taken in response.” We would hope so, Monsieur Gariépy, because assuming the Canadian government would not fund art as treason now seems to be a terrible mistake. While Militari’s album is scheduled for release on Sept. 11, the “L’Attente” video has already been posted online. It shows Taliban fighters preparing to ambush a Canadian convoy. “I expect the one who should have stayed home. I’m ready...I want to free my land. This is not about religion. So, why turn off your TVs, I’ve never hijacked airplanes. “The Taliban are then shown detonating a bomb buried in the road as the convoy approaches and shooting the survivors. In the final scene, a gunman finds a Canadian seated on the road and aims his rifle at the soldier’s head.” And, get this: Manu Militari took the video off the web on Friday following complaints that it glorified terrorism and disrespected Canadian troops who served in Afghanistan, but said he “never intended any offense”.
“Since the situation has become disproportionate, I have no choice but to remove the video “”L’Attente”, he wrote in a Facebook post. “The goal was never to offend anyone but to denounce the war and to humanize an Afghan that we demonize. Nowhere was there mention of the Taliban group I do not support.”
Canada Free Press recommends membership for Manu Militari in Code Pink. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has condemned the video as a “slap in the face to our military”. “This music video glorifies terrorism and shows an utter lack of support to those who have sacrificed everything for us,” PMO Andrew MacDougall said The video would never have happened without the Canadian Heritage department’s $100,000 subsidy. Forget the cake cutting and the pretty speeches today. The best gift the Canadian government can give Canadians is to defund and defang treasonous groups sucking on the public teat. Meanwhile, Happy Canada Day, everybody.
