Just when you think the Mayor of Toronto couldn’t do or say anything more stupid, he comes up with his stupidest ideas yet. He wants to send convicted gun-thugs out of Toronto. Where does Ford think Toronto’s armed thugs should be sent? Hamilton? Halifax? Regina? Where? Ford probably got his dumb idea from New York’s erstwhile mayor, Rudolph Giuliani, who cleaned up Times Square by sending the pornographers and other low-life creeps to infect other parts of New York.
Ford says he also wants more stringent gun laws. Someone should inform the mayor that Toronto already has tough gun laws, but the problem is the thugs just ignore them by buying illegal guns and ammo. I’m not kidding. Here’s a couple of sensible suggestions for combatting the gangs: Make it a criminal offence to be a member of any gang that the police know to be dangerous. Plant police agents (moles) in these gangs to destroy them from within. The FBI has had great success in taking out Mafia chiefs by using moles. There are, surely, more ways to combat armed gangs but don’t expect to hear any from the Mayor of Toronto.
