HOUSTON, TX. ― True The Vote (TTV), a nonpartisan election integrity organization, responded to the recent Commonwealth Court ruling upholding Pennsylvania’s voter identification law.
“This is a positive, although unsurprising development in the ongoing effort to ensure election integrity,” True The Vote President Catherine Engelbrecht said. “While many in the press and professional politics may seek to stoke false outrage over these common-sense measures, American legal precedent has already been established on this matter. The United States Supreme Court upheld the State of Indiana’s voter ID laws on the basis that it improved faith in our election system. In a time where over 70 percent of voters are demanding better safeguards to prevent against fraud, Pennsylvania is entitled to equal protection of the law. Voters are best served when states maintain the right to improve transparency and efficiency – rather than being forced to waste time and taxpayer funds fighting misguided litigation.”
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the League of Women Voters among others initially brought suit on the basis that required identification would disenfranchise voters. Commonwealth Court Judge Robert Simpson rejected their request for preliminary injunction.
True The Vote (TTV) a nonpartisan, nonprofit grassroots organization focused on preserving election integrity is operated by citizens for citizens, to inspire and equip volunteers for involvement at every stage of our electoral process. TTV empowers organizations and individuals across the nation to actively protect the rights of legitimate voters, regardless of their political party affiliation.
