SIMMONS: Are There Differences Between Obama and Romney Energy Policies?

Daniel Simmons, Director of State and Regulatory Affairs for the Institute for Energy Research, appeared on Minnesota Public Radio’s “The Daily Circuit” yesterday to discuss Mitt Romney’s proposed energy policies as well as how Romney’s policies differ from President Obama’s energy policies. Simmons’ opening statement is below:
“There are definitely clear differences, especially between the things that Governor Romney is saying today compared with some of the things he’s said in the past.
Governor Romney has been very pro-energy development for the reason that it draws a very clear distinction in being very pro-coal, pro-oil, pro-natural gas while President Obama has a reputation especially of being not pro-coal and not pro-oil. Governor Romney has been drawing on those distinctions, saying that authorization of the Keystone XL pipeline would be one of the first things he would do. Keystone XL pipeline polls very well as does domestic energy production generally, so those are the reasons Governor Romney is really pushing these issues.
