Doing nothing no option

Charles Krauthammer, a syndicated columnist for the Washington Post, recently told us in one of his columns that Anthony Cordesman, a military analyst at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, has offered advice about how the United States should deal with Iran’s nuclear weapons development program.
Cordesman evidently believes that the U.S. should make it clear to the Iranians that they must abandon the program or else the American military will destroy it. Cordesman also believes that the United States should establish redlines and deadlines and make it clear to the Iranians that they will be upheld and that the U.S. should offer Iran generous rewards for ending the program as a face-saving sop for them. Five things need to be made clear now. One, a preemptive military attack by either America or Israel is the only way to get rid of Iran’s nuclear weapons development program, to keep nuclear weapons out of Iran’s hands and prevent the Iranians from becoming a nuclear power, two, Iran is very close to successfully developing nuclear weapons and getting closer every day, three, a nuclear Iran would pose a grave threat to America and Americans, four, Iran would launch her nuclear weapons against Israel as soon as she got them and five, none of what Cordesman proposes is going to happen, none of it.

President Obama is ideologically, intellectually, politically and personally incapable of doing any of it and the Iranians know it. They are fully aware that they have nothing to fear from America as long as Obama is president and that the United States has therefore given them free rein to keep on developing nuclear weapons. Short of a large-scale Iranian military attack on America itself there is no possible way that President Obama is going to take military action against Iran’s nuclear weapons development program, whether he gets re-elected in November's presidential election or not. That means that the United States under President Obama has chosen to do nothing to prevent Iran from developing, possessing and eventually using nuclear weapons even though there is no doubt that a nuclear Iran would be catastrophic for the U.S. in a wide variety of ways and would place the sovereignty, security and arguably the very existence of the country at great risk. Doing nothing to get rid of Iran’s nuclear weapons development program is the worst possible option for America, even if Obama is too stupid, blind and weak to recognize and understand that and actually do anything about it but it is an option that the United States has adopted nevertheless. Doing nothing is not an option for Israel however. The Israelis know full well that Iran would launch her nuclear weapons against Israel as soon as she possibly could in an effort to obliterate Israel and wipe it off the map and that millions of people would be murdered and die horrific deaths even if the country somehow miraculously survived. Those are givens and they are incontrovertible. Iran wants to destroy Israel and kill as many Jews as possible and would use her nuclear weapons to try and do exactly that...it would be the first attempted nuclear genocide in history and there is no doubt that the Iranians will go ahead with it once they are able to, no doubt whatsoever. The Israelis have no illusions about this and neither should anyone else, especially Americans, who are in fact next on Iran’s hit list if it succeeds against Israel. That is why doing nothing is not an option for Israel. If it doesn’t launch a preemptive, unilateral military strike against Iran’s nuclear weapons development program, soon, it will be attacked by Iranian nuclear weapons, soon, the country will most likely not survive and millions of people would be murdered and die horrific deaths in any case. Israelis know that launching a preemptive, unilateral strike would have terrible consequences for them and their country but they also know that the consequences would be infinitely worse if they didn’t, that doing nothing simply isn’t an option for them. When it happens, you can blame Iran, you can blame Islam, you can blame Obama, you can blame the Islamic world, you can blame Russia or China or the West, you can blame whatever or whoever you want, but don’t blame Israel or the Israelis...they’re just reacting to events, their environment, the lunacy of their antagonists and the unintended (or quite possibly intended for that matter) complicity of their supposed friends and allies and doing what they need to do to survive. No, doing nothing is not an option for Israel or Israelis and you can expect them to attack soon, probably in the next month or so because the window of opportunity becomes more problematic after that. Good for them, good luck and go Israel go.
