Demonstrations have little to do with a poorly written, badly acted, and otherwise offensive video

Jay Carney: Just doing his job

I wonder how White House Press Secretary Jay Carney, or anyone in the Obama administration manages to sleep at night or look themselves in the mirror.
I understand that Carney has a job to do, and he does it well. His boss, Barack Obama directs him on what to say to the press and he tells them. However, yesterday's announcement to the press that the violence in the Mid East is not directed at the United States or any of its policies was sheer lunacy. Carney maintained that the violence resulted from a video that Muslims found offensive and they are merely reacting to it. Bullhockey! Anyone with half a brain understands that the protesters are using the video as a pretext to strike out at the United States and they began on the 11th anniversary of 9/11 of all days. There is no coincidence here. By Friday, more than 20 sites around U.S. embassies were attacked and burning in the Mid East, and they continue to do this because they hate the West, particularly the United States.

As they marched through the streets and attacked embassies, they chanted, “Death to America”; “Down with the great Satan”; and other slogans that spewed hatred of us. They burned American flags, spit upon them and ground the pieces beneath their feet. And they did it with impunity because they know this president will do nothing to retaliate. They recognize weakness when they see it. No, these demonstrations have little to do with a poorly written, badly acted, and otherwise offensive video. These demonstrations stem from a visceral hatred for another culture, another religious tradition, and another way of life. I would suggest to Mr. Carney that he take another look at the newsfeeds and note the signs, the chants, the destruction, and the shredded flags. Then I want him to look the press squarely in the face and with all honesty say as he did yesterday, “This is not a case of protests directed at the United States at large or at U.S. policy. This is in response to a video that is offensive to Muslims.” Then I want him to go home and sleep the sleep of the righteous if he can.
