Missouri Senate Race

Catch-22 for the GOP Elites!

At 5:00pm this evening, the clock runs out for the GOP elites in ousting Representative Akin from his bid to unseat Mom McCaskill from the U. S. Senate. Recently, Mr. Akin has been `improving in the polls, putting some distance between his Biden-like gaffe regarding “legitimate’ rape’ and now. Among his supporters is a group, ‘Women for Akin’! Assuming Mr. Akin is good to his word, the GOP elite are facing a Catch-22 moment!
Mr. Akin has raised a modest sum of money from small donors for the home stretch of the election, but his war chest is only about one-tenth of what Mom McCaskill has available to unleash upon him. Mom McCaskill has refrained from firing all barrels of her $6 million-plus war chest until she knows that Mr. Akin will be her ultimate challenger. Once the clock strikes 5:00pm tonight, Missouri voters need to be prepared for the gaffe to be replayed ad nausea between September 26th and Election Day. Gutless Opposition Party Chairman Reince Priebus and his band of thuggish elites will have to determine which lesser of two evils they are willing to settle for. Is it better to support a genuine conservative Republican and offset possible losses in the Senate, or lose the seat because Mr. Akin is a genuine conservative who votes his conscience, not the elite party line? If they refuse assistance to Mr. Akin, are the GOP elites willing to ‘gritch’ and moan for six long years as Mom McCaskill continues to justify Gaffe Biden’s boast that ‘Barack Obama has no greater friend than Claire McCaskill’?

Mr. Priebus has boasted on national TV that the GOP will not assist Mr. Akin in his efforts to unseat McCaskill. It appears we will get to see if this narcissist will do what is best for the party and the republic, or if he will act like a Republicbrat in depriving Mr. Akin, the GOP and the republic of an opportunity of regaining this Senate seat. Should the Republicbrat emerge, he will reveal himself no better than our Narcissist-in-Chief! I live on the Kansas side of the Kansas-Missouri state line within the Kansas City metro area. Our local media market encompasses both sides of the state line. Being in the metro area, we are in one of the two major media markets on opposite sides of the state of Missouri. Our local morning conservative talk radio host, Greg Knapp, has done a great job of having various Republican guests on his show since the unfortunate Akin gaffe. Following his unfortunate gaffe, Mr. Akin has acquitted himself well when he has been on Mr. Knapp’s show and, repeatedly, he has made it clear that he hasnever intended to bow out of the race. Mr. Knapp’s other Missouri and national GOP guests, including former Senator Jim Talent and Senator Roy Blunt, have been equally steadfast in wanting Mr. Akin to abandon his bid for the Senate seat held by Mom McCaskill. Messrs Talent and Blunt also have unique ties to the Akin-McCaskill race. Mr. Talent lost his Senate re-election race to Mom McCaskill in 2006, so his perspective may be somewhat skewed. I used to respect Mr. Talent and I was upset when Mom McCaskill upset him. He was caught up in the electoral eddy that flushed many Republicans from office because so many Republicans had acted like drunken Demoncrats, spending taxpayers’ money as if they were mini-Obamas before very many people knew the name Barack Obama. Unfortunately, it is apparent he has shrunk to being a Republican hood rat and has aligned himself with the party elites. He is a party loyalist, not a people loyalist. Senator Blunt is a member of one of the political royal families within Missouri. He is a GOP elitist. Don’t you detest political royal families? Wasn’t our Constitutional republic established to save us from rule by a political royal family? Mr. Blunt waltzes around many of Mr. Knapp’s questions as if he were a contestant on ‘So You Think You Can Dance’! Prior to moving from the House to the Senate, Mr. Blunt was the ‘Republican whip’ in the House. His job was to marshal all members of his party within the House to be aligned with President Bush on major issues. Mr. Akin was a member of the House when Mr. Blunt was the party whip. Because Mr. Akin voted his conscience on several major issues, not with the whip, it is a good bet that the relationship between Messrs Akin and Blunt may be somewhat strained. It appears that the GOP elites in Missouri and around the country are willing to sacrifice the opportunity to seize a vulnerable Senate seat because Mr. Akin is actually a genuine conservative, not just a campaign conservative. Mr. Romney has also voiced his desire to see Mr. Akin cease his bid for the Senate seat. Has Mr. Romney considered the possibility that Mr. Akin may have coattails to help deliver votes for Mr. Romney? Mr. Akin’s supporters are the heart and soul of the GOP. There is a possibility that Ron Paul supporters may sit out the election, going, instead, for Gary Johnson, or going rogue in some other manner. Also, justifiable or not, some Christians have a difficult time supporting a Mormon for office, especially the Office of the Presidency. Independence, MO (within the Kansas City metro) is home to a large population of Mormons, but out-state Christians may not flock to the polls without a compelling reason to do so. With these issues looming, shouldn’t Mr. Romney be showing support for Mr. Akin, building a bridge between himself and Mr. Akin’s supporters? Lost within the in-party vitriol is what is at stake for the state of Missouri and the entire nation. Mr. Akin’s gaffe was reprehensible, but he has apologized and has worked arduously to refocus his race upon the issues, and Mom McCaskill is an issue. Mom McCaskill has worked on several pieces of legislation that are commendable, but her deciding vote on CadaverCare, and her consistent votes against energy exploration and drilling, etc., have revealed her stealth extremist positions that are counter to the majority of Missourians. Over 70% of Missouri voters voted to repeal CadaverCare! If GOP elites and Missouri voters apply the Ben Franklin ‘T’ for making an informed decision, based upon facts, Ms. McCaskill should be retired from the Senate in 2012. Mom ‘Air Claire’ McCaskill also has her own tax delinquency issue that she continues to sweep under the rug. Don’t we have too many people in elected and appointive government who abuse the tax laws, and, when caught, they want to whitewash the issue? Mom McCaskill is to the state of Missouri what Obama is to our republic; she speaks with a forked tongue. She appears amiable in her ads, but can be snarky when those who don’t like her politics confront her. During a Town Hall in which she was questioned on her positions and votes, she crowed that she could use her ‘Mom’ voice to overcome the din generated in response to her comments. Mr. Knapp speaks for many in Missouri and the country in asking, ‘If the GOPnelites are unwilling to support Mr. Akin with badly needed funding, shouldn’t they, at the least, unleash funds to attack a very vulnerable McCaskill in an effort to reacquire her Senate seat? There are six weeks until November 6th. Much is at stake, possibly our Constitutional republic. Will the GOP elite do the right thing and support Mr. Akin, at least in exposing the Liberal voting record of Mom McCaskill, or will it take its ball and go home? The better choice in this Catch-22 is supporting Mr. Akin. We need to pray for the GOP elites to do the right thing and for the voters within the state of Missouri, that they become educated on the issues and the candidates’ positions on these issues before casting their votes. Not only is Mr. Akin a Republican, he is a conservative Republican who will stand on principle in a swamp of quicksand of deceit and abuse. May the Holy Spirit inspire the GOP elites and the majority of Missourians in sending Mr. Akin to the U. S. Senate!
