“These two aspirations -- to be the engine of Canadian jobs again and to have world-leading public services -- are interdependent, not separate, goals. We can't have one without the other. And Ontarians deserve both.” -Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak, Huffington Post, October 25, 2012
QUEEN’S PARK – With the latest Statistics Canada job numbers showing Ontario lost 40,000 private sector jobs in October, the Liberals need to take the government off of autopilot and get back to work, Ontario PC Economic Development and Innovation Critic Monte McNaughton said today.
McNaughton’s comments came after today’s release of Statistics Canada Labour Force Survey, which shows that Ontario’s unemployment rate increased to 8.3 per cent last month, marking the 70th month in a row that the province’s unemployment rate has been higher than the national average. “While 40,000 private sector and self-employed workers lost their jobs last month, the public sector continues to bloat adding 30,000 positions,” McNaughton said. “This is not what recovery looks like, and the fact of the matter is: the province will never reach its full potential until the 600,000 unemployed Ontarians are back in jobs.

“MPPs need to be in the House, passing pro-growth policies and legislation that will kick-start the economy and help businesses grow. When this happens, more people will have jobs, and can invest their income back into the economy.” These reasons are why the Ontario PCs released their fourth Paths to Prosperity white paper, An Agenda for Growth. The paper presents 15 bold, new ideas to kick-start the economy and create jobs, available here: In contrast, the Liberals have no plan to fix their made-in-Ontario jobs and debt crisis, McNaughton stated. “They put a government that was failing to do its job on autopilot, all because they want to run away from scandal while they pick a new Leader.” “The Liberals need to immediately reverse course, and recall the Legislature,” McNaughton concluded.
