No matter what ills befall the country, the republicans WILL be blamed. So, just let 'er rip!

Don’t Trust—AND—Verify Anyway!

In the ongoing "negotiations" between Obama and his Democratic minions in the Congress and the Republicans and their Tea Party faction, the right side of this debate must be absolutely certain to verify the claims the democrats will make to cut spending.
Like Lucy holding the football for Charlie Brown, the democrats are certain to snatch those spending cuts away at the very first opportunity -- even if they have to create a scenario within which the spending cuts are denied, delayed, or simply vanish. This ain't our first rodeo. We've seen this happen time and time again. In fact, I daresay, the Republicans are being set-up to be smacked down -- even as I write these few words. Here's another uncomfortable fact for my friends on the right. The republicans WILL get the blame for higher taxes, higher costs, cutting back the military, or whatever the results are. The plan is set and in motion. The GOP WILL take the fall. The whole thing is now a no-win situation for the GOP.

If the republicans give in and allow the democrats to increase taxes, then the right side of the party including the Tea Party faction, will decimate their numbers in the 2014 election. That is not an idle threat. And between then and the 2014 election the Tea Partiers within the Congress will make life miserable for the moderate and left leaning republicans. Needless to say, this is going to be a very uncomfortable Congress for the GOP. It really makes no difference what they do, they are going to be eviscerated by the leftist media, which is to say -- the Mainstream Media -- or, as we like to refer to them around here, the NFM (Non-Fox Media) I'm not an expert on finances, or economics -- at all. I just want to make that clear. That is why you seldom see a piece about it with my signature. But some things are just so clear, even a dummy like me can see it and, in some cases -- see through it. That's where we are with "tax-maggedon" and sequestration looming over our heads today. There is no way Obama can lose, no way the democrats can lose. Elections have consequences -- and this is one of them. If the whole thing goes over that "cliff," we are told so much about, and America winds up in another recession, it will even be recorded in the history books as a huge republican "screw-up." Don't believe me? Do a little light research and see what REALLY happened with President Herbert Hoover and The Great Depression. I have concluded that all things considered, the GOP ought to stand pat and allow the country to go over the fiscal cliff. Roughly the same amount of pain will be felt by the country either way. So, why not? No matter what ills befall the country, the republicans WILL be blamed. So, just let 'er rip! Back when I was a just wee lad of grammar school age, a friend's mother was accused of an affair with another man. In fact, there was no affair, at first. Later, after she had been labeled with the scarlet letter for a few months, she DID begin stepping out on her husband. Upon being asked by my mother why she did it, she replied that since she was being blamed anyway, she felt she might as well go ahead and have some fun. While I am not an advocate of this sort of behavior, I can see the attraction for someone caught up in it. We have a problem that cannot be solved by going around it, over it, or under it. So we might as well put our heads down and "bull" our way right through the middle. The sooner we get started -- the sooner we will get through it. J. D. Longstreet
