Newly-minted Conservative Senator Ted Cruz appeared on Meet the Press yesterday, going toe to toe with gun control advocates Chuck Schumer and David Gregory. Sadly, no one brought up the fact that Gregory himself proved the folly of magazine bans by violating DC's restrictions on-air. However, it's a solid debate, and Cruz does well despite being (pun intended) out-gunned.
Particularly effective is Cruz’s evisceration of Obama’s desired gun control initiatives. They solve nothing, Cruz knows it, and he does a good job with that point.
My favorite moment? Chuck Schumer choking when he tries to utter the phrase "pro-gun Democrats."
After the gun segment they get into the debt ceiling debate and a question about race in the GOP. Cruz continues to perform admirably.
All in all, it was a strong – substantive - showing for the Tea Party favorite.
