MARKHAM, ON,  - Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. announced that its sales of 71,642 units during the first six months of 2012 has set a new company record with an increase of 4.3% over the same period last year. During the month of June, the company sold 13,761 units representing an increase of 2.4% over the same month last year.

“June was a pivotal month for Hyundai,” said Steve Kelleher, President and CEO of Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. “We extended our streak of monthly sales increases to 42, set a new record for half-year sales, and launched two new members of the Elantra family: a sporty Elantra Coupe and the European-style Elantra GT 5-door. With a sedan, coupe, and GT now available at dealers nation-wide, the Elantra now represents one of the most comprehensive offerings in Canada’s critical compact segment.”

With sales of 180 units, June marked a new best month for sales in the history of the Genesis luxury sedan (previously May, 2012). Similarly, the radically-styled Veloster three-door coupe saw its best month yet with sales of 678 units, as did the Elantra family, including the North American and Canadian Car of the Year (the Elantra Sedan), with 3,720 units sold.

In June, Hyundai vehicles consuming 5.0 L/100 km or less represented 52.4% of total sales. The Accent subcompact, Elantra family of compacts, Veloster 3-door coupe, and Sonata Hybrid intermediate sedan all consume fuel at rates of 5.0 L/100 km or less on the highway.
