TORONTO, Thomas Cook Canada today celebrated its launch of service with inaugural flights departing from Toronto to Cancun, Mexico and Montego Bay, Jamaica this morning, marking the first time the airline is flying from Canada, to a number of sunny southern destinations.

The initial flying program will see the Thomas Cook branded Boeing 757-200s departing on more than 70 flights each week traveling to 19 destinations. Service out of Halifax kicks off on December 17 and out of Ottawa and Montreal on December 18.

Operated by Jazz, exclusively for Sunquest’s flying program, the Thomas Cook Canada fleet will travel from Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax to various vacation wonderlands in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, the Bahamas, Jamaica, Aruba, Curaçao and Costa Rica.

Hundreds of thousands of Canadians will fly aboard the brand new airline this fall and winter beginning today through April 2011. All 211 passengers per flight can expect an enhanced onboard experience, including a 10 per cent increase in seating space over flights previously operated on behalf of Sunquest.

“We’re committed to providing the best service possible from Canada and we are extremely pleased to celebrate the launch of this service out of Toronto today,” said Michael Friisdahl, CEO, Thomas Cook North America.  “Based on our research Canadians want flights that operate on time. We have invested the resources necessary to make this happen, including a partnership with Jazz, which has the best on-time performance in the country and an industry-leading safety record,” he added.

In addition to providing more comfort on every flight, customers will receive extras such as welcome mimosas, hot meal service with full tray set-up, a complimentary glass of wine and even fresh warm cookies baked right on board (when flying time permits). There is also a selection of first-run movies and popular sitcoms, a variety of music channels, daily Metro newspapers and Sunquest’s entertaining in-flight magazine Destinations for everyone to enjoy.

Customers can choose to upgrade to the Silver (a $150 value for $49 per person, roundtrip) or Gold (a $300 value for $69-$79 per person, roundtrip) package and receive complimentary seat selection, priority check-in, baggage handling and boarding, increased baggage allowance, two additional complimentary alcoholic drink vouchers, complimentary headsets and comfort kit, Plaza Premium lounge access in Toronto (Gold package only), complimentary use of PlayStation Portables (Gold package only) and an exclusive Park’N Fly discount (Gold package only).

Sunquest is part of the Thomas Cook Group plc, one of the world’s leading leisure travel companies. Sunquest has teamed up with Jazz, which has the largest domestic network in Canada, to bring Thomas Cook Canada flights to Canadians, and through this partnership has built a remarkable foundation that will provide tremendous flexibility and deliver to Sunquest customers vacations that are best-in-class.
