Toronto, ON—Canadians have many more reasons to visit the island of Ireland this year other than a strong Canadian dollar thanks to the Irish government’s new tourism initiative.

The tax (VAT) charged on tourism-related goods and services has now been reduced from 13.5 percent to 9 per cent, which will lead to cheaper prices for travellers on restaurant and catering services, hotel and vacation accommodation, and various entertainment services such as admissions to cinemas, theatres, museums, fairgrounds, amusement parks and sporting facilities.

Starting July 1, 2011, flights into Dublin will also see lower costs thanks to the elimination of the €10 (C$14) Air Travel Tax.

Hotel prices are also more affordable with Ireland being voted as having the cheapest hotels and as the cheapest country to visit in Western Europe in a recent survey by Hotels.com, which also rated Dublin as one of its “best-value cities”.

Direct seasonal access is available with Air Canada and Air Transat, so with all of these fantastic reasons awaiting Canadians – the only question we’ll ask is ‘What are you waiting for?’
