TORONTO – Vehicle sales in Canada increased in August up 3.2% compared to August 2010. Canadian year-to-date vehicle sales year remained relatively stagnant at 1.7% above last years sales volume, at 1,089,605 .
For the AIAMC membership, August sales of 70,659 were down 2.4% compared to August 2010 sales and overall sales for AIAMC members year-to-date fell to 562,913 down slightly (1.8%) from year-to-date sales in 2010.

Toronto, – With the summer driving season in full swing and thousands of motorists getting set to hit the highway this long weekend, drivers are reminded they can save at the pumps by ensuring their tires are properly inflated.
Every year Canadian drivers waste millions of litres of fuel simply because their tires are not inflated to the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendation. In 2011, Natural Resources Canada estimates that under-inflated tires will waste 533 million litres of fuel at a cost of $722 million in unnecessary fuel bills. This wasted full, which is enough to power 275,000 vehicles for a full year, will also release an additional 1.2 million tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

Kia definitely seems to be throwing down the gauntlet, and if they keep making cars like the new Optima, other manufacturers had better be looking over their shoulders.
The Optima really knocked my socks off when I drove it for a week recently; it not only looks great, it drives well and has just about every technological toy and/or tool you can imagine, short possibly of the ability to drive itself. Maybe they’re holding that back for 2012…

TORONTO – Overall light duty vehicle sales for May moved down modestly, reflecting the ongoing challenges with vehicle supply arising from the March 11thdisaster in Japan. May’s sales were down 3.8% year-over-year to 149,034. For the AIAMC membership, sales were reflective of the Japanese supply challenges, with members’ sales falling 6.9% to 76,315 compared to last May.
For the first time in a number of months overall truck sales declined, down 1.4% in May to 79,632. The truck share of the overall market was 53.4% increasing slightly over April’s share (52.7%) and last May’s share (52.1%) being somewhat counterintuitive given sustained higher gasoline prices. For AIAMC members, truck sales were down 1.8% to 27,147. Trucks represented a 35.5% share of total AIAMC member sales, slightly higher than the 33.7% share of sales last May.

Canadian motorists suffering from sky-high fuel prices may be adding to their pain by not measuring their tire pressures monthly.
Canadian drivers will waste an estimated $722 million in unnecessary fuel bills in 2011 simply because one or more of their tires are under-inflated, according to data from Natural Resources Canada and the Rubber Association of Canada (RAC), which represents tire makers.

TORONTO – Overall light duty vehicle sales for April continued March’s trend of strengthening smartly, up 6.9% over April 2010 sales to 159,942. For the AIAMC membership, sales modestly beat the market up 7.1% from April 2010 to 88,044.
While overall truck sales continued to grow, up 5.9% overall to 84,262, the truck share of the overall market at 52.7% was just slightly lower than it was in April 2010. For AIAMC members, April truck sales did significantly better than the market rising 15.3% to 32,688. For AIAMC members, trucks represented In April, truck sales comprised 37% of the members’ overall sales.

Japanese company Genepax presents its eco-friendly car that runs on nothing but water. The car has an energy generator that extracts hydrogen from water that is poured into the car’s tank. The generator then releases electrons that produce electric power to run the car. The electric powered car can run on any type of water (you can even use tea and soda…etc). The car can run for an hour at about 50 miles per hour on just a liter of water; about 2 cans of soda worth. Genepax, the company that invented the technology, aims to collaborate with Japanese manufacturers to mass produce it.

TORONTO, Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) today reported sales of 17,669 Toyota, Lexus and Scion cars, trucks and SUVs in March 2011, down 10.7% from a year earlier.
As a result, 2011 sales were down 10.7%, but represented an 11.1% increase over the same period in 2009. Several records were recorded across all 3 TCI brands as both Toyota trucks and Scion achieved best month ever sales, while Lexus attained a best March ever.
