No red ink! Tory MP seeing red instead!
By David C. Jennings Monday, April 22, 2013
Under Britain’s last Labour government the use of red ink by teachers to mark papers was outlawed in hundreds of schools because it was considered “confrontational” and ”threatening”. The current Conservative government has rescinded that kind of silliness but it appears that not all schools have gotten the message.
Kissing the CrocodileBy Daniel Greenfield Monday, April 22, 2013
In Vienna, toward the end of the Age of Aquarius, a father bought his little girl a baby crocodile for her birthday. The child had become enchanted with the reptile after seeing a picture of it in a storybook and when all the other presents were opened, her new pet was presented to her.
UK bill moves to limit power of Sharia CourtsBy David C. Jennings Sunday, April 21, 2013
Under the Arbitration Act of 1996, Muslims in the UK were empowered to resolve certain legal matters within their faith in a similar way to that already granted to Jewish Beth Din courts. These allow adherents of (mostly orthodox) Judaism to settle matters according to their religious faith without the matter entering civil law.
R.I.P. Anne WilliamsBy David C. Jennings Saturday, April 20, 2013
Before Liverpool host Chelsea in the Barclays Premier League at 4pm Sunday April 21st there will be a minute of applause (British football has replaced the minute of silence with this). One reason will be to join many others around the world in recognizing the horrific events in Boston this week; the other will be to remember Anne Williams.
Boston based John Henry was in Liverpool Monday to attend the 24th anniversary of the Hillsborough tragedy. As the owner of both Liverpool FC and baseball’s Boston Red Sox he was divided between attending a home game on Patriots Day in Massachusetts or attending a memorial service. This year he chose to be in Liverpool! He may choose so again but it was the last service for Anne Williams, a leading crusader in Justice for the 96. She passed away 3 days later from bowel cancer.
Tory donors defecting to UKIP over gay-marriage fanaticism
By David C. Jennings Friday, April 19, 2013
UK Conservative Party finances are reeling with the revelation that at least five key Tory donors have defected to UKIP, their rival to the right, over Prime Minister David Cameron’s nonsensical obsession with gay politics.
Before there was Thatcher, there was ChurchillBy Alan Caruba Monday, April 15, 2013
An older generation of Americans who lived through World War II recall the British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, who John F. Kennedy said, “In the dark days and darker nights when England stood alone and most men save Englishmen despaired of England’s life, he mobilized the English language and sent it into battle.”
As Margaret Thatcher is laid to rest with full honors, it would be well to recall that she would not have been Prime Minister if there had not been a Winston Churchill. Against the most daunting odds, he mobilized England against the threat of Nazi Germany and its allies, Italy and Japan. After World War Two broke out in 1939, England would wait years before the United States joined the war after having been attacked by the Empire of Japan in 1941.
Britain increasingly takes on American litigation crazeBy David C. Jennings Monday, April 15, 2013
Going, going, gone; swings and slides and trips to the seaside. British schools are becoming more and more wary of lawsuits over accidents involving children and are responding defensively in order to protect themselves financially.
Ding Dong! Maggie’s gone! But the hatred keeps on comingBy David C. Jennings Saturday, April 13, 2013
In only a few days since the death of former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, the Wizard of Oz song ‘Ding Dong the Witch is Dead’ has approached the top of the UK singles music chart. It is meant as a direct insult to, and commentary on, the late Conservative leader. Despite having stepped out of party and governmental leadership 23 years earlier, her detractors are still outraged at her so much so that a campaign to make this song Britain’s best seller is likely to succeed.
What Will Happen to Europe?
By Bruce Walker Wednesday, April 10, 2013
Europe is swirling down a maelstrom and it is hard to see what can save the mother continent of so much we cherish. The sovereign debt crisis – national governments which cannot honor their promises to repay holders of their bonds – is spreading from the original PIGS (Portugal, Ireland, Greece and Spain) to neighboring nations.
Sharia’s Sticks and StonesBy Daniel Greenfield Wednesday, April 10, 2013
The BBC’s Panorama series has gone undercover at Sharia councils where Islamic law is doled out in the state within a state within the multicultural bureaucracy to discover that the dispensers of Islamic law have failed abused women. Failing abused women is the nice genteel way that lefties use to mean that the judicial system of a religion built on abusing women is perpetuating those abuses in the UK.
Margaret Thatcher did not divide, but merely highlighted the divide already thereBy Anna Grayson Tuesday, April 9, 2013
LONDON, ENGLAND—London, England-Three hundred scruffy Glaswegians took to the streets last night popping champagne corks to celebrate Thatcher’s demise. In south London, they went a step further trashing and looting a few shops while brandishing signs like ‘the # is dead’. Meanwhile the head of the Durham Miner’s Association stuck a celebratory fat cigar in his bloated face; pompously claiming the former PM wreaked havoc on ‘MY people, MY communities’.
Party! Leftist Brits pretty excited that Thatcher is deadBy Dan Calabrese Tuesday, April 9, 2013
This is probably just a more advanced demonstration of what you might see here when, say, Dick Cheney dies some day. Live it up! Nothing says life fulfillment like hearing about the death of someone with whom you disagreed politically, if that’s all you’ve got in life. Take some Dramamine before you watch this:
