Tim Yeo: We Are All Climate Sceptics Now
By Guest Column Wednesday, May 29, 2013
Humans may not be responsible for global warming, the MP who oversees government policy on climate change has said. Tim Yeo, the chairman of the Commons Energy and Climate Change committee, said he accepts the earth’s temperature is increasing but said “natural phases” may be to blame. He said: “Although I think the evidence that the climate is changing is now overwhelming, the causes are not absolutely clear. There could be natural causes, natural phases that are taking place.” Mr Yeo has previously spoken with great certainty about the science of climate change. He said in 2009: “The dying gasps of the deniers will be put to bed. In five years time, no one will argue about a man-made contribution to climate change.”—Matthew Holehouse, The Daily Telegraph, 29 May 2013
Mindless “Green” Indoctrination of ChildrenBy Paul Driessen Tuesday, May 28, 2013
“We’re from the Earth Guardians group, and we’re working on fracking and how it’s going to affect our future and our health. So we wrote this song for all the gas companies that are putting their profits ahead of our future.”
With that prelude, 12-year-old Xiuhtezcatl Martinez and his 9-year-old brother Itzcuauhtli launched into an anti-fracking rap song for Evergreen Middle School students whose teacher had invited them to travel 40 miles from their home in “the People’s Republic of Boulder,” Colorado. The song was well rehearsed, spirited, clever – and no doubt assisted by their mother, the founder and executive director of Earth Guardians, and maybe even by Boulder’s former mayor, an EG advisor.
David Cameron’s Climate Adviser Says Climate Sceptics Should Be HeardBy Guest Column Tuesday, May 28, 2013
Science questioning climate change should not be “rubbished or ridiculed”, a Westcountry MP charged with devising climate and energy policy for David Cameron has said. George Eustice, Conservative MP for Camborne and Redruth, says he believes there is a link between carbon emissions and warming the planet, but argues “all perspectives” should be heard. Mr Eustice is soon to be part of an eight-strong team of Conservatives developing policy within No 10, and will advise on energy and climate change. Conservative peer Lord Lawson, who established the Global Warming Policy Foundation, has accused climate scientists of “manipulating” records of global temperature and called for a “an open and reasoned debate” about climate change policies.—Graeme Demianyk, Western Morning News, 27 May 2013
Green Energy ClawbackBy Guest Column Monday, May 27, 2013
Australia’s one million rooftop solar households could be forced to pay new fixed charges to help recover billions of dollars in taxpayer subsidies and make electricity prices fairer for all consumers. A series of electricity industry reports has highlighted the inequity in existing power pricing where customers without solar panels are unfairly subsidising those with them.—Graham Lloyd, The Australian, 25 May 2013
EU Leaders Back Shale Revolution, Roll Back Climate Policy
By Guest Column Thursday, May 23, 2013
Europe’s heads of State and government want to promote shale gas and to reduce energy prices. They would rather promote competition than stop global warming.—Christopher Ziedler, Der Tagesspiegel, 22 May 2013
Dem Sen. Boxer blames tornadoes on global warmingBy Marc Morano Tuesday, May 21, 2013
A Climate Depot Special Report debunking a global warming/tornado connection
Morano Statement: “U.S. Senators Boxer and Whitehouse and other global warming activists have descended into buffoonery trying to exploit a natural disaster in Oklahoma. Have you no sense of decency, Senators? At long last, have you left no sense of decency or understanding of science?”
EU To Dial Back Global Warming PoliciesBy Guest Column Monday, May 20, 2013
The European Union, which has spearheaded efforts to curb global warming, is set to adopt a change of focus in response to concerns over costs and the impact on companies in economically depressed Europe. Under the change, the European Union will prioritize the supply of energy at affordable prices over cutting greenhouse gas emissions which impose burdens on industries, in a turnaround of the region’s energy policy, an EU official said Saturday. EU leaders will decide on the shift in energy policy at a meeting Wednesday. The change reflects requests from businesses in the 27-member zone amid the prolonged economic slump triggered by the eurozone sovereign debt crisis, the official said.—Kyodo News International, 18 May 2013
Gone With The WindBy Guest Column Friday, May 17, 2013
The leader of the Scottish Government review of landownership yesterday pledged to examine ways of redistributing the cash wealthy lairds make from wind farms to benefit the less-advantaged. Alison Elliot, chair of the Land Reform Review Group (LRRG), said the issue would be investigated amid concerns that aristocrats are benefiting from the renewables revolution while the poor grapple with fuel poverty.—Tom Peterkin, The Scotsman, 16 May 2013
Canadian PM must be held to account for dangerous climate change policy
By Tom Harris Wednesday, May 15, 2013
Canadians are frustrated by Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s non-answer to critical questions about the world-wide climate change agreement his government supports. Those attending his presentation to the Council on Foreign Relations in New York City on Thursday should ask the Prime Minister why he promotes what is in effect another Kyoto Protocol, even though he condemns the first protocol as worse than useless.
Europe’s Green HellBy Guest Column Tuesday, May 14, 2013
The European Union’s utopian scheme of transforming itself into a green energy powerhouse is faltering as its fantasy plan is colliding with reality. As the EU’s economic and financial crisis deepens and unemployment continues to rise, what used to be an almost all-embracing green consensus is beginning to disintegrate. The green ideology of limits to growth has turned into a self-fulfilling prophecy. Ecological rejection of traditional industries, the obstruction of new technologies together with an almost all-embracing hostility to every form of conventional (let alone unconventional) energy generation is gradually shifting the centre of economic growth and innovation away from an ageing and depressed Europe. —Benny Peiser, Financial Post, 14 May 2013

Prince Charles Vs Climate Sceptics - AgainBy Guest Column Monday, May 13, 2013
Prince Charles has attacked corporate lobbyists and climate change sceptics for turning the Earth into a “dying patient”, making his most outspoken criticism yet of the world’s failure to tackle global warming just when the heir to the throne is assuming a growing number of the duties of what is supposed to be an apolitical monarchy. Prince Charles’s views were reinforced by Lord Stern, author of the 2006 report on the economics of climate change, who called sceptics and lobbyists “forces of darkness” who would be driven back.—Fiona Harvey, The Guardian, 9 May 2013
