As I write this, I have just been assaulted by aTSA agent. I went throught their little machine and was waiting to be allowed to leave. The TSA agent then said to
me I have to check this area, ok? Before she had even said this she had already grabbed my breast. She did not check me with the back of her hand, she did not give me a chance to do or say anything. I am the victim of sexual assault before and this was extremely traumatic. I will likely have nightmares for weeks and will need to change business plans as I do not feel able to fly again.

Excellent article about the TSA. I agree with you we need to wake the people up this is a disgrace and I fear for the future of the US.

How can we wake them UP????

Thank you for bringing to print the disgust and loss of dignity that so many of us have felt ever since the TSA began this invasive program. If you refuse to go along with it, you will be arrested or at the least, not be allowed to board the plane for which you have bought a ticket. And how do you explain to a child that it is alright for this stranger to touch them in places they have been warned not to allow. We all feel totally helpless against this lawless government and our anger is justified. Will it take another revolution to bring back our freedoms?

Anyway, thank you so much for putting a voice to how so many of us feel.

Only because we live in a plutocracy.

Oh, god, I was waiting for that.
We live in a democratic republic, okay? Ostensibly, anyway.

"Several notable Soviet leaders, from Lenin to Krushchev, claimed that the West and the U.S. in particular would collapse from within and eventually become socialist."
Yeah, but they were wrong. The country's more rightwing than ever. It's rotting from the inside, all right, thanks to the looting of the middle class by corporate fraudsters.

"Years ago the leader of the U.S. socialist party quit running for president when he realized the Democratic Party had adopted virtually every plank of the socialist platform, and just the other day the Communist Party USA gave a hearty endorsement of Obama for president. Communism is alive and well today and operates under the banner of progressivism."
Hilarious. Just hilarious. The Democratic Party and Obama are about as socialist -- and as progressive -- as J. Edgar Hoover. They are just as beholden to corporate interests as the Republican Party. There is, in fact, precious little difference between the two parties. But the culture-war trigger words are alive and well.

By the way, Bernie Sanders is a socialist. Oooh -- scary! He's speaking up on behalf of the 98% of people in this country who aren't millionaires, who actually work for a living (or are trying to, given that unemployment is off the charts), and who aren't trying to soak the middle class. He's a rara avis in Congress because he doesn't suck up to every banker, fund manager, and "defense" contractor who comes down the pike. So far, he hasn't managed to bring down the country with his scary socialist ways.

And I'm unafraid to say I consider myself a socialist. A real one, as opposed to the sham definition promulgated by fear-mongers. I'm strongly in favor of civil liberties, free speech, fair pay for fair work, due process, the rule of law, and democratic systems, the latter which we don't have in this country, as it's a plutocracy, not a democracy. Oh, I also can't stand political correctness, and have spent almost as much time criticizing it as I have criticizing the abuses and overreach of our authoritarian government.

The left/right divide makes increasingly little sense. Let's look for allies where we can find them to fight for the good of the country together, instead of running scared from labels.

Assault by TSA

Every time there is a crisis, instead of going after the terrorists, we create huge new bureaucracies with the sole purpose of mistreating and abusing innocent Americans under the guise of protecting us

imageLast week, at Reagan National Airport I was chosen in line to be screened by the naked scanner. I knew that this technology had been rushed to market and had not been properly tested for the amount of radiation exposure and its concentration in skin, which increases the risk of cancer.

AIT (Advanced Imaging Technology) uses backscatter x-rays, which emit ionizing radiation. The cumulative effect is absorbed almost entirely by skin and underlying tissues. The dose is believed to be 20 times higher than estimated by the manufacturer. Repeated scanning may cause significant health risks particularly in people who are more susceptible/sensitive to radiation and are prone to DNA mutation.
