Given the clear legal grounds laid out for the United Nations by the International Court of Justice you must wonder why the 15 members of the Security Council have taken more than six weeks so far to make up their minds - when they should have already voted 15-0 against Palestine's application to be admitted to the UN. Regrettably there is a growing tendency to fly in the face of the law and ignore its clear directives. That is a recipe for disaster and a real threat to the continued existence of the UN. Supposedly based on law and the rule of law - the UN is constantly bringing the law into disrepute by ignoring its clear directions. The PLO Charter still calls for the liberation of Israel and Jordan - two member states of the UN - and their reunification with the West Bank and Gaza Amid all the hogwash that passes for political commentary - it is apparent that the 15 members of the Security Council are facing a huge dilemma in deciding whether to recommend the admission of Palestine to the United Nations as its 194th member - after deliberating on the application now for more than six weeks.
