Given the clear legal grounds laid out for the United Nations by the International Court of Justice you must wonder why the 15 members of the Security Council have taken more than six weeks so far to make up their minds - when they should have already voted 15-0 against Palestine's application to be admitted to the UN.

Regrettably there is a growing tendency to fly in the face of the law and ignore its clear directives.

That is a recipe for disaster and a real threat to the continued existence of the UN.

Supposedly based on law and the rule of law - the UN is constantly bringing the law into disrepute by ignoring its clear directions.

This article shows the desperate situation that the world is in when we have a Security Council that doesn't know how to fulfill its own stipulations.

The entire world knows that Palestine is not a State. If it were, there would be no more need for negotiations, which the entire world constantly harasses Israel for. Any amateur political observer knows this. What's wrong with the professional buffoons at the UN???!!!

David Singer writes with simple truth, well-known facts and clear legal authority. This piece should be required reading for each and every member of the UN Security Council.

Amid all the hogwash that passes for political commentary - it is apparent that the 15 members of the Security Council are facing a huge dilemma in deciding whether to recommend the admission of Palestine to the United Nations as its 194th member - after deliberating on the application now for more than six weeks.
