CommentsDaniel,Whether you agree with the details or not, there's such a thing as positive discrimination. The Native Americans the white europeans-cum-Americans butchered have certain entitlements. Those born with a disability also have entitlements. I suppose the premise of providing a little bit of (positive) focus on Muslims, is because there are so many hatemongers out there who read one bias blog on Islam and then turn on auto-hate because of the assumptions they jump to. I'd like to talk to you about the Muslim Emergency Management Plan in Australia. I want to point out your lack of understanding of what the initiative is all about. You suggest it is more pandering to Muslims in Australia by govt, and you suggest it is a key anti-terror initiative. The rationale behind it is to build GENERAL emergerncy management capability within the diverse and often migrant-based Muslim community. Yes, there is a focus on what would occur after a terrorist incident. Why? Because there is a lot of evidence that Muslim people, especially the more vulnerable of us, like women and children become targets of violent and malicious threats. That's real. What is also real is the threat to further destroying community harmony after such an event. Melbourne in particular, is a succesful multicultural story, by and large. that is not to say there aren't fringes of intolerance on the right, left and wherever else. But the MEMP is designed to help (contribute, amongst other strategies) maintain social equilibrium in the event of a terror disaster, so that the fringes don't expand and you get more intolerance. It would be unreasonable to think there were no benefits in trying to maintain or restore social harmony in such a circumstance. Now... to suggest that this is the Australian authorities answer to dealing with the threat of terrorism is just a weak attempt to pull the wool over your reader's eyes. Australia spends millions, billions on security and anti-terror initiatives, from wars in the ME, to security legislation, to security apparati, to a plethora of other strategies (for good or bad). One strategy to assist the integration and empowerment of Muslim communities, and therefore the broader community, in the event of a terror disaster, or any disaster, is going to be beneficial. Muslims are people, believe it or not, and should be included. Educating, saving lives, maintaining safety, building resilience, being proactive, having the capability to recover after an incident, understanding and working with established emergency service providers, human service organisations, etc, is positive. Happy to discuss further. Posted by Hisham on 01/07 at 10:49 PM | # Awesome piece, Daniel. Thanks! Posted by Jeff B. on 12/21 at 07:53 PM | # I'm insulted that the name of the show is All American Muslum! Really? When I first saw it advertised, I was not ever going to have that channel on again until it was off. This is just a way of getting under the skin, making it all okay.. I'm willing to give anyone a chance, but as the saying goes....fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me! We have all been fooled once...lets not let our guard down again. I believe people have the right to believe in whatever it is they want as long as it is not forced on me, demanded that I comply by their rules under the threat of death. If I do not wish to follow your "religion" not matter what religion it is, that's my decision and my right and you have no right to demand I change. Islam is demanding that we all change....under threats of death.... So, thank you Lowe's, for pulling your ads even tho it was due to low ratings. This obviously not what Americans want to watch....even with all the lousy shows available now. The belief that verses were revealed for particular situations in the early history of Islam and were cancelled by later verses (after the Muslims became stronger) is a mainstream belief. Chapter (surah) 9 is the penultimate "revealed" and has the 9: 29 "verse of the sword" in it. Posted by Simon on 12/21 at 09:28 AM | # The reason for all this sycophancy and whitewashing of Islam? One reason - Middle Eastern petrodollars buy lots of influence. The final conflict is coming just as surely as night follows day. Beware of the "emergency measures" and totalitarian dictatorship that is sure to follow. Is creating discord between culturally incompatible groups part of the plan for a N.W.O. to remedy the situation? It certainly appears so. Charlton Heston was right. Muslim apologists don't even have (or chose not to have) even common logic - if Lowe's was so anti-Muslim they would not put their add on a show in a first place. It's obvious they stop advertising because of low rating. Keep up a good job! Wow I loved your column. I hope More people see what you wrote. I do not fear anything more right now than what is going on in all the countries and is becoming more pronounced that we here in America are going to follow what is happen in Europe. People are being too PC. I wish people would understand that Police in Europe are not even allowed on certain streets where Muslims are. I think Our Dear leader here in US is a closet Muslim. I do believe he was born here but changed things and hid things because he did not want people to know Malcolm X was his father. I believe because he too was Muslim and a radical. I think he was groomed and yes maybe he was born in Africa, but of two legal citizens of the US. I'm weary of the attack on Christians and the Jewish people. I'm tired of the war on Christmas, and it is a war. Once again, you wrote a great article, and keep it up. One of my other favorite web sites is Atlas Shrugs. It tells the truth. Don't shoot me in the head while shouting Allah Akbar and tell me it's workplace violence In addition to being exempt from satirical cartoons, airline security procedures and human rights—the chattering media classes in all their wisdom have decided that Muslims should also be exempt from the laws of economics. Forget welfare, Muslims are now entitled to media welfare. When normal religions want to put on a show promoting their religion, they build themselves a cable channel. Sadly, Bridges TV, the Muslim cable channel dedicated to challenging stereotypes, hating Jews and promoting Islam ran into some trouble when its founder and president beheaded its co-founder, who also happened to be his wife.
