CommentsThis article brought back some bitter memories of an “Earth First” timber sale protest in my community some time ago. This sale called “Little Alfie” was a special product sale consisting of moderately sized (telephone pole size) trees that the purchaser bought for cabin rafter poles. This was the 3rd time that area had been logged. This group of misfits came here in the middle of winter and set up camp trying to block access to the logging site, thinking to find virgin timber in a pristine forest. I was working for the sawmill owner that bought the sale at the time, and knew the logger personally, and volunteered to go up there that afternoon with 50 – 100 – 200 loggers and run them out of there right then and there. The Logger wanted to do it “legally” so he got the Sheriff involved, who did nothing. This “protest” lasted all winter, cost the mill owner his contract for the poles, and cost the County $800,000 in legal and court costs. Most of these people were derelicts recruited from out of state college campuses and paid minimum wage to be there. Some of the locals befriended them and found that they were only interested in an orgy of free drugs and sex. They couldn’t care less about trees. They were not allowed to talk to reporters; an appointed “spokesman” did that, insisting that “trees are people too”. Excerpts from Earth First’s magazine showed a policy of recruiting “eco-terrorists” from people suffering from terminal diseases that were encouraged to “go out with a bang” by blowing up a dam or burning a sawmill, etc. in an effort to save nature. Collections of money were taken by Earth First to provide for the families of these people after their suicide. A lawsuit was filed by a Contract Logger’s Assn. charging the US Forrest Service of practicing the religion of “Deep Ecology” but it was dismissed at the onset (like the “eligibility” lawsuits) precluding a decision on the merits. I offered some supplemental research to the attorney handling the case so I am familiar with the proceedings. Ron Arnold came here and gave several addresses on Deep Ecology. The enemy is within the gates. Posted by frank on 07/22 at 10:01 AM | # Kelly, Fortunately the statement “As for Dave Foreman, his kind will always be with us in one form or another” is not correct. It may seem like ALWAYS, but fortunately there is an end to foolishness and it may be closer than most can imagine. Throughout history there have been those who consider themselves to be a “higher creation” and they can justify their hatred of others and their subsequent terrorism as the only way because they are superior to the common man. It is the half truth which allows them to justify their actions. The shame is they have never know The Creator of all but made themselves a god formed with their own hands and vain imaginations. I am a responsible person, and I take the best care of my land as I know to do. That is only logical. I am not an ecologist but I AM a Conservationist, and there is a world of difference between those who think it is their business to abuse others and those who try to use wisdom to conduct their ways. When we were farming we allowed a portion of our land to “rest” every seven years because that was the prescriptive. It was not uncommon for year after year to have our land to outproduce others in the region by as much as a factor of two. You might just suppose that He who created this earth knows what He is talking about. As for me, I have never found Him to fail. Man fails, God does not. Common sense was lost in the schools and the raving of the lunatics became THE way. Out of that foolishness we have the creation of the eco terrorists and others of their kind. Anti-Law Leftist Environmentalists Seek to Act as Judge, Jury & Hangman One of the astounding ironies of the modern age is many groups associated with “selfless” secular evangelism are little more than grubby Marxist endeavors designed to enslave credulous, leftist drones. While the relentlessly disingenuous Global Warming cabal comes to mind, this description also fits the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance (NMWA). The Alliance has sought for years to create wilderness designations that would not just limit mankind’s ability to travel into such areas, but also certainly bankrupt many old ranch families with landholdings in these areas, too.
