CommentsA French journal I read some years ago stated that there are actually very few children with these kinds of disorders. Most of the time the problem comes from "poor upbringing". Parents nowadays have a tendency of asking the child his opinion for most things : what to eat, what to wear, what to do. The fact that the child has to decide these things as well as frequently getting their way and telling parents what to do makes the child feel insecure. He feels that these "adults" cannot decide for themselves and keep him safe. He becomes anxious and it is the anxiety that brings on the hyperactivity. Well defined limits and sticking to them will often do more than the medication used to overcome these symptoms.Posted by usfrog on 05/19 at 06:18 PM | # If ADD is simply the lack of focusing ability it would follow that the child would not/could not focus on anything or activity. Perhaps those diagnosed with ADD but who can spend enormous attention on cell phones/texting/web based personal interaction sites are not in fact ADD candidates. It would certainly not be the first over applied diagnosis delivered to place a person in some category. Still, it seems odd to see ADD diagnosed children focus intensely on web based peer to peer sites. My observation has been that lack of concentration is clearly in topics of no interest to the ADD child and most of those I have watched have not developed many interest areas outside of peer relations, and those relationships tend to be where the ADD child can dominate. I wonder if any studies have been done using brain scanning to locate regions of high activity in response to external stimuli. I know I will investigate on the web. ADD, ADHD The topic of ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) or ADHD (Attention Deficit with Hyperactivity Disorder) can stir emotion in some, especially among parents whose children are affected. It was originally known as Minimal Brain Dysfunction. There are two basic types of ADD: (1) Passive, where the child is not hyperactive, but can’t focus and (2) Active, where the child is hyperactive along with a deficiency of attention. Plainly stated, ADD children can’t focus their attention on anything for a long time. More...Post a Comment on: Attention Deficit Disorder…...NotCommenting is not available in this channel entry.
