Keep it going til they "GET it"
Open Letter to the Supreme Court
- Guest Column By Walt & Cyndy Wednesday, June 13, 2012
Under normal circumstances, I would think writing to the Supreme Court of the United States something inappropriately grandiose and way out of my league. I reconsidered, however, when the current occupant of the Oval Office saw fit to exert his cancerous influence over the Judiciary branch. To me, this seems the very definition of hubris, but if it is good enough for Obama, then it must be good enough for me, since our founding fathers said I am endowed with the same rights as he is. It is my most fervent hope that in constructing your opinion, you will revisit the law you have faithfully served all your life. I hope you will re-dedicate yourself to the Constitution which necessitates your vigilant existence and then examine your hearts to find the words which will comfort this troubled nation. We look to you as a stalwart line of defense against a dark enemy of the republic. You chose to stand watch over our safety no less than every branch of our brave military. It is your intelligence and integrity which gives us confidence in the spirit as well as the letter of the law of this great land. Please do not allow the monument of American Integrity to become a memory. Where Congress and the Oval Office have abandoned our trust, we now look to you to justify the system of checks & balances our forefathers provided for just such an occasion.
You are the justices of the Supreme Court of the United States. The very definition of gravitas!
The defenders of truth.
The last word of interpretation of the legal Tower of Babel.
I am not so concerned about your ability or willingness to defend and protect me. Your forebears of decades gone by carried that torch to your door. The part that keeps me awake at night is my grandchildren, who may never know the greatness that once was America. The America where we grew up. Who, for all her faults, held the beacon of freedom high for all the world to draw near and judge our fitness to lead the free world. The world came in droves and we embraced all who respected our beloved land. But now she is challenged and attacked by those of less moral intent than her spirit deserves. Where Congress and the Oval Office have repeatedly violated our trust, we now trust you to justify the brilliance of our forefathers in providing a system of checks & balances.
I pray to the God, Whom we believe ordained our rights, for your courage and your clarity. More than this I cannot ask of mere mortals. Even the mere mortals who are held to the highest standards we possess. Shield us with your robes, and protect us from the greatest threat to the very definition of what it means to be American Citizens. We beg of you, reject the notion that any American can be forced, by anyone, including its government, to purchase any product or service whether we find it useful or repugnant. Defend our freedom of speech, freedom of religion and our very right to exist as free and morally driven Americans.
History, as well as posterity, demand that we require no less of you, both individually and collectively.
Respectfully,
