By making the business viable, some jobs were saved
The Vilification of Mitt Romney
- Guest Column By John Land Friday, July 13, 2012
Why do people vilify Mitt Romney for being successful? Steve Jobs, Donald Trump, the Kennedy family - we are a country of opportunity and successes. The problem for Mitt is that his talent is saving failing businesses and not technology development or any other “approved” endeavor. The Olympics was one of his rescues. Those who don’t understand business, view his actions as calloused and ruthless. No one has the courage to say, he SAVED jobs. But that’s what he did. By making the business viable, some jobs were saved. Had business failed all jobs would have disappeared.
Bad government policies, poor management, economic pressures, loss of market share and more contribute to companies getting in trouble. Mr. Romney had no hand in the downfall of these businesses. Where is the outrage at the things, all fixable, that hurt business? There is no recognition by the public of the incredible challenges faced by entrepreneurs in this country. For heaven sake, even heavily subsidized Solyndra couldn’t make it.
Don’t blame the rescuer, blame the system that made the rescue necessary.
