Normalcy Bias

When people face a disaster, such as a hurricane, they are likely to under estimate the possible devastation or even the possibility that it will actually occur. This is called the “Normalcy Bias”.

We assume that because we’ve never been hit by a hurricane, for example, that we never will be.

We expect each one will conveniently veer off to some other location.

In hurricane Katrina, the refusal to believe the levees could fail, caused unnecessary deaths.
The levees could and did fail.

That is exactly what we are doing as a nation. Within our life time, most of us have not faced economic collapse.

We have always been sovereign and free. We have not been occupied. Our right to free speech and the vote are taken for granted.

Denying these threats as real and serious is to allow the forces bent on destroying our country to win.

With every stroke of his pen, this President takes another freedom from us. It is imperative that we do not hide our heads in the sand or we may succumb as a nation to the normalcy bias.
