Election Day
Petty distractions
- Guest Column By Arnold Avery Saturday, September 22, 2012
It seems to me that we Americans are paying too much attention to the wrong things. Everybody misspeaks from time to time. Especially if they are tired or stressed. Campaigning for President will make you tired and stresses, I believe. One wife has a horse, the other loves to travel. So what. Both candidates filed and paid the taxes required by law. But gave to charity. Perhaps someday we will have the luxury of focusing on these sorts of things. This is not that time. We are borrowing and printing money to keep our country afloat. We are staring down the barrel of middle east war. We have fellow Americans who are homeless, hungry, unemployed in record numbers. We have lost our manufacturing edge. We have lost our educational superiority.
So, pardon me if I could care less about the petty things. Getting in an uproar over the little stuff is part of the plan and we are falling for it. Let’s, at least until the election, look at the big picture and concentrate on the real issues. And let’s exercise our right to vote for the person we believe will stand beside us as we begin to fix the problems, who will speak to us like adults, and who will demonstrate leadership on the world stage.
