COLUMBIA, SC - Military analyst, author, columnist, and former U.S. Marine infantryman W. Thomas Smith Jr. has been commissioned a
major in the South Carolina State Guard.
In ceremonies today, Smith was administered the oath of office by retired U.S. Navy SEAL Lt. Michael Thornton (recipient of the Medal of Honor).
Following the commissioning, a luncheon in Maj. Smith's honor was held at the Capital City Club, attended by Thornton, Brig. Gen. and Mrs. Eugene F. Rogers, Maj. Gen. Nelson Lacy, Maj. Gen. and Mrs. Eli Wishart, family and friends.
As a field-grade officer, Smith will serve as both information officer and aide-de-camp to Brig. Gen. Rogers.
